A 43-year-old mother was arrested on Monday after her 8-year-old child dialed 911 from the backseat of the woman’s moving car, Springfield police said.

Officers stopped Camie Colleen Sorensen, 43, of Prineville, after her child told a 911 dispatcher that Sorensen was driving her Subaru recklessly and looking for “water to drive into,” according to a statement from police.

An officer spotted Sorensen’s car as she drove into Springfield, but Sorensen allegedly took off “at a high rate of speed” after the officer tried to perform a traffic stop, police said.

Sorensen weaved through traffic after fleeing the officer, before stopping abruptly in the middle of a street, police said.

Officers took Sorensen into custody and retrieved her 8-year-old child from the back seat, according to police.

Sorensen faces charges of fleeing a police officer, reckless driving, driving under the influence of intoxicants and two counts of reckless endangerment, according to court records.

Sorensen is next scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 20.
