A man repeatedly fired a gun from his car while driving on Interstate 5 in Douglas County on Thursday, Oregon State Police said.
Charles Simmons, 53, of Winston, was taken into custody and is being investigated for bias crimes, officials said.
Simmons “attempted to stop other motorists and caused a non-injury crash with another vehicle while displaying and at times discharging a firearm,” state police allege. Earlier in the day the suspect had contacted the Oregon State Police’s Roseburg office and made comments about “foreign” drivers on I-5, police said in a statement.
The state police ask any witnesses of Thursday’s incident on I-5 to call 800-442-2068.
