After earning the No. 1 seed in the 2A Evergreen Conference, the Tumwater baseball team showed no signs of slowing in a 4-1 win over 2A Greater St. Helens League No. 4 Hockinson Tuesday at home in the first round of the 2A District 4 tournament.
Ace pitcher Ryan Orr threw a gem, going 6 ⅔ innings, allowing just one hit, one unearned run, and striking out 17 in dominant fashion. Alex Overbay came in to record the final out, a strikeout.
At the plate, Blake Smith got the action going with a 2-RBI single in the first, and Brayden Oram and Derek Thompson knocked in two more runs in the second and fourth innings, respectively.
The Thunderbirds will play Shelton in the district semifinals Wednesday at Ridgefield at 4 p.m.
