Overnight Closures Are Coming to U.S. Highway 12 in Thurston County

Posted

The portion of U.S. Highway 12 that runs through downtown Grand Mound in south Thurston County will be closed May 2 and May 3 for construction. Drivers in the area can expect detours that will prevent people from being in a work zone.

The area that will be affected is from Pecan Street SW to Old Highway 99 SW. Crews will be paving a new roundabout intersection at Sargent Road. The road will be closed from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. both days.

According to a news release from the Board of County Commissioners, the roundabout creates a north-south crossing of US-12, something the area has needed to improve traffic flow. It will also allow for emergency response vehicles to have better, safer route alternatives during road maintenance.
