The Pe Ell girls basketball team played one of its most complete games of the season on Wednesday, taking down Naselle on the road 63-50.
“This was the best four quarters I feel like we’ve put together,” Pe Ell coach Kelsey Lennox said. “Our energy was good all game, our execution was excellent, and our defense was tenacious.”
Pe Ell took a four-point lead after one and pushed it to nine at the break, but Naselle began to chip away in the third. The Trojans still led by seven going into the final frame, but early in the quarter, the Comets got within two.
“My girls stayed composed and in control of the game,” Lennox said.
As a team, the Trojans finished with 24 steals and doubled by the Comets on the offensive glass.
Peyton Zock played all 32 minutes and “worked hard every second she was in,” finishing with 20 points and 12 rebounds.
Maisy King nearly posted a quadruple-double, logging eight points, 17 rebounds, 10 steals, and eight assists.
Ava King added 17 points, including eight in the fourth to help Pe Ell seal the win.
“She’s really been working on her shot in the off season and on her own time and it’s showing,” Lennox said.
Karli Phelps added 13 points, five assists, and four steals, and Madi Engel finished with five points.
Pe Ell (7-7, 4-0 1B CVL) will return home to host Willapa Valley on Saturday.
