A quick start helped Pe Ell build an early lead over Ocosta on Saturday, and the Trojans were able to hold off the Wildcats for a 52-41 victory.
“Tonight was a really good early season test for us to see where we are,” Pe Ell coach Ross Hojem said. “I’m proud of our players and coaching staff.”
The Trojans came out in a full court press, and they were able to build a 20-10 lead. Ocosta adjusted in the second, limiting Pe Ell to just six points in the frame and cutting into the lead, and it also outscored Pe Ell in the third quarter to get within three.
The Trojans kept the pressure on in the fourth, though, and they were able to pull away to seal the win.
Blake Nelson led the Trojans with 20 points, and Blaine Howard scored 10. Liam McGrath added six, Mo Morales tallied five, and both Eli Mason and Kohl Perkins scored four. Pierce Edgar rounded out the Pe Ell scorers with a point.
“It was a fun, hard-fought game with an enthusiastic crowd,” Hojem said. “We have been really working hard this young season to trust in our system, trust the process, and trust our teammates. This really came to the forefront tonight.”
Pe Ell (3-0) will look to make it four straight at home against Three Rivers Christian on Tuesday.
