Authorities say they have detained two people who they believe fled Saturday after police deployed a spike strip near Portland International Airport.
Police responded to the area of Interstate 205 south of the Glenn L. Jackson Memorial Bridge after a person was driving recklessly and attempting to elude officers, according to a Portland Police Bureau spokesperson.
The vehicle was driving at “very, very high speed,” disregarding signals and passing other cars in a dangerous manner, said the spokesperson, Kevin Allen.
After officials deployed spike strips to deflate the vehicle’s tires, the driver fled down the highway onto Northeast Marine Drive and into the Portland International Airport economy parking lot, Allen said.
Portland and Port of Portland officers searched the area and detained two people – including another suspect – believed to have fled the vehicle, Allen said.
Oregon Department of Transportation officials said to expect delays in the area.
