A Davie Police Department spokesperson confirmed that officers responded to former Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith’s Florida residence Sunday after a call reporting alleged battery. No arrests were made, but the case was being further investigated by a detective" as of Monday evening.
A woman posted an 80-plus second video to social media Sunday that alleged Smith physically assaulted her. Reposts of the video have been widely circulated.
The Davie Police Department said in an email Monday that they had received a “battery call” around 4:40 p.m. ET on June 21.
“Officers responded to the Smith residence yesterday; however, no arrest was made,” Davie police public information officer Brittany Vezina said in an email at 11:34 a.m. PT on Monday. “The report for this case is currently still under review and not available for release at this time.”
A few hours later, the same officer shared an update.
"We were informed earlier this evening, that during review, it was determined that this case is being further investigated by a detective," Vezina wrote in an email sent at 3:16 p.m. PT. "It is active and we cannot release any additional information at this time.
Smith's agent did not respond to a request for comment from The Seattle Times.
Davie is located 24 miles north of Miami and approximately 10 miles west of Fort Lauderdale. It is located in Broward County, the same county in which Smith attended high school.
The Instagram account shown on screen recordings of the video belongs to an account that is currently private.
Smith has publicly acknowledged he has one son who was born in July 2019. It is unclear if the allegations in the video are being made in reference to Smith's 6-year-old or another child.
Smith joined the Seahawks in 2019 where he was Russell Wilson’s backup until the 2022 season. He was the Seahawks’ starting quarterback through the 2024 season and was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders in March 2025.
Smith was acquired by the New York Jets this year. He is expected to be their starting quarterback this upcoming season.
