State police troopers shot and injured an Oregon City man in rural Linn County on Monday evening, officials said.

Oregon State Police said in a statement that officers shot David Duncan, 69, shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Oregon 20 about 9 miles east of Sweet Home.

Prior to the shooting, Duncan allegedly crashed his car on the highway, got out and started urinating in view of passing witnesses — then pulled out a gun and fired shots across the highway, police said.

Authorities locked down a nearby summer camp, as well as River Bend County Park’s campground, police said.

When troopers got to the scene they tried to talk to Duncan, but he got in his truck and drove westbound, officials said.

Authorities said troopers shot Duncan as his “vehicle approached law enforcement,” but didn’t say if he was driving directly at officers or how many troopers opened fire.

First responders drove Duncan to a hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Police said nobody else was injured in the incident.

The Albany Police Department is independently investigating the incident, which police said is in line with standard protocol in Linn County.
