The Thunderbirds nearly came away with a perfect score of 15 on the boys side, but saw nine total lifetime bests from their group to cruise by the Wolves on Wednesday afternoon at Pioneer Park.
Of Tumwater’s scoring five, four had PR’s and all placed in the top-six. Zane McAferty won his first career race in 17:44.80, then Hayden Newman was second in 17:53.71. Tyler Clark, Landon Martin and Jude Rauscher all followed in third, fourth and sixth place, respectively.
Black Hills sophomore Seth Thomasson ran 18:41.04 to finish fifth and pace Black Hills. Nathan Brazil (12th), Liam Altrum (13th), Jameson Ruiz (15th) and Warren Hanson (16th) all ran sub-23 minutes to round out the Wolves’ scoring five.
There were just nine total girls in the varsity race and Black Hills occupied seven of the nine. Maddie Knight was its best runner, second in 23:26.40 followed by Averie Reynolds in third, Jane Birchard in fourth, Iselin Scott (sixth) and Adeline Rice (seventh).
Tumwater’s Alexandra Broome won her first meet since the matchup with Black Hills last year, cruising to victory in 22:07.09. Teammate Brooklyn Schenck was fifth in a new PR of 24:31.96.
