One person died after a person fleeing a DUI traffic stop collided with another vehicle on Interstate 5 early morning Sunday, according to Federal Way police.

Around 3 a.m., a state trooper tried to stop a driver on suspicion of DUI, but the man fled south for about 13 miles, according to Federal Way police, who investigated the incident. The driver then struck another car heading south on I-5, near South 336th Street. The suspect’s car also struck a trooper’s cruiser.

One of the four people in the other car was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police, and three others were taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Federal Way police were asked to help Washington State Patrol.

The suspected driver, a 24-year-old man, was arrested for investigation of vehicular homicide, eluding and DUI, police said. He was expected to be booked into the King County Jail.
