The Rainier track team had a good day at home on Tuesday, as the girls’ team won a District 4 1B/2B league meet and the boys’ team finished second.
The Rainier girls cruised to a win, scoring 207 points, 80 points more than second-place Adna, while the Napavine finished first on the boys side, scoring 145 points as a team to Rainier’s 139.
The Rainier girls were led by Acacia Murphy (100), Jazzlyn Shumate (400), Madison Ingram (800), and Komaire Robles (1,600 and 3,200), who all won their races. The 4x100 thrower’s relay team of Katelyn Eckroth, Zaylee Bravo, Janess Blackburn, and Lydia Johnson also won.
Shumate, Murphy, and Ingram joined Rayanna Wisner in the winning 4x400 relay team, while Blackburn (discus), Eckroth (javelin), Murphy (high jump), and Marvin (pole vault) won their respective field events.
The Napavine boys only had a pair of winners. Austin Lyons won the triple jump and the 300-meter hurdles and he was also a part of the 4x100 relay team, joining Quinton Van Kooten, Travis Kirkpatrick, Case Van Kooten.
Several other Tigers earned top-five finishes, however, putting them in position to finish on top as a team.
On the girls side, Sorena Neilson (100 hurdles), and Karsyn Freeman (shot put) won their individual events for the Pirates, and Freeman, Sophie Hagseth, Alicia Ruiz de Velasco Guillen, and Megan Price won the 4x100 and the 4x200 relay.
Napavine’s Jenna Gallagher (long jump) was the Tigers’ lone victor on the girls side, and Oakville-North River’s 4x200 team of Rylee Morrow, Bella Kimbrel, Ava Freist, and Destiny Beaver earned ONR’s best finish (third) of the day.
On the boys side, Alex Salinas (100), Zach Hamilton (400), Zander Peck (javelin), Adison Poole (pole vault), and Jordan Pringle (long jump) won events for the Rainier boys, while Dorien Cano, Peck, Steven Johnston, and Jake Hanson teamed up to win the 4x100 thrower’s relay.
Adna’s Cohen Hartley (800), Brady Morgan (1,600), Bailey Davis (3,200), Gavan Muller (110 hurdles), and Carter Duncan (high jump) won events for the Pirate boys, as did the 4x400 relay team of Treven Willis, Muller, Kolton Moon, and Isaac Garman.
ONR’s Lewis Koser won at both the shot put and the discus.
