One hit was all the Mountaineers needed to kickstart a rally that turned a three-run deficit into a comeback victory on Friday night.
Seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on six hits gave Rainier the lead and an 11-7 triumph over Morton-White Pass on Friday night at home.
Sitting at a 2-0 start to the season, the Mountaineers almost went into a C2BL doubleheader against Kalama at .500. Hunter Howell began the climb with a two-run triple to make it 7-6 and Ryder Cruse tied the game with an RBI groundout.
After a single, walk and a double steal, Rainier (2-0) grabbed the lead on a run-scoring groundout by Dayton Gardner then Blake Fennel and Johnny Boesch registered singles that brought in the final three runs of the frame.
A 1-2-3 all-strikeouts inning by the Timberwolves ended the game.
MWP jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one and 6-1 after four. It struggled with 10 total errors on the night and struck out 14 times. Brecken Pelletier paced the Timberwolves with three hits and scored three times, but he was also saddled with the loss on the mound.
Howell, Cruse and Kaymen Larman all drove in two runs while Boesch and Larman each notched two hits. Gardner pitched the final four innings with eight strikeouts to secure the win for Rainier.
