Two local sophomores earned the day’s laurels at Rainbow Park in Kalama, with Rainier’s Angelica Askey and Toledo’s Treyton Marty taking first place in their respective races Thursday at a 2B meet-up.

Marty covered the 5,000-meter course in 19:50.32, beating second-place Zach Hamilton out of Rainier by nearly 70 seconds. Askey ran the race in 27:58.85.

Onalaska won the team event for the boys – there weren’t any full girls teams – led by Ben Russon’s third-place time of 21:16.85. Behind him, Isaac Fitch (22:11.47), Conner Blair (22:13.32), and Riley Carter (22:30.71) were fifth, sixth, and seventh, respectively, while Cole Russon finished 11th in 23:22.35.

Rainier’s James Meldrum added a top-10 finish with an eighth-place time of 22:39.33.

In the girls’ race, Toledo’s Jasmine Kemmerer was third with a time of 30:48.22. Her teammate Candace Clark was fifth (31:17.30), just behind Rainier’s Madison Mounts (31:07.81)
