Expanding Your Horizons, a half-day science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) career exploration conference for young women in grades six through nine, is coming to the Centralia College Campus on Saturday, Oct. 23.

This will be the 28th year that the Lewis County Chapter of American Association of University Women and the Centralia College TRIO/TS programs have combined to offer girls in the local area a variety of hands-on workshops taught by career women in STEAM-related fields, according to Centralia College.

“Expanding Your Horizons presents a unique opportunity for young women to increase their interest in careers in the STEAM fields, foster their awareness of the diversity of career opportunities in those fields and engage with female role models who are employed in those fields,” Centralia College said in a news release.

For attendees, the day begins at 7:45 a.m. and concludes at noon. Attendees at this year’s conference can select two hands-on STEAM career workshops from a list of 21 different workshops.

All participants can also attend an assembly where students will help representatives from the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry demonstrate the predictable, and sometimes unpredictable, properties of solids, liquids, gasses and plasmas.

Registration is open now, with a registration fee of $10 per family. Scholarships are available. For a full list of available workshops and registration form, go to https://lewiscounty-wa.aauw.net/files/2023/09/EYHBrochure.pdf.
