State Rep. Peter Abbarno, R-Centralia, met with fifth grade students and teachers from Edison Elementary School during a recent tour of the state Capitol.

The 20th District lawmaker engaged with students on a variety of civics-related topics and answered a wide-range of questions about the legislative process, according to a news release.

“Speaking with local students at the Capitol while they learn about our state and government is among my favorite parts of serving the 20th Legislative District,” Abbarno said. “My family has strong connections to Edison Elementary, so having these great Bulldogs in Olympia was extra special.”

The students were able to learn interesting facts about the history of the state Capitol. For instance, the Tiffany chandelier that hangs from the dome in the rotunda is the largest of its kind in the world, weighing over 1.5 tons and measuring 14 feet in diameter. It was designed in 1912 by Louis Comfort Tiffany, the famous American artist and designer. It contains over 1,000 individual pieces of colored glass arranged in a floral pattern.

“I appreciate all the students, teachers, and parents for visiting the Capitol and taking this fun and educational tour,” Abbarno said. “Centralia should be very proud of their Bulldogs.” To schedule a Capitol tour, call 360-902-8880 or email tours@des.wa.gov
