Repair and Sustainability Fair coming to Centralia for Earth Day

As part of Earth Day, volunteer “fixers” will be on hand at the Lewis County Repair and Sustainability Fair.

The free event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at Centralia College’s SWFT Center, 807 W. Pear St., Centralia.

Lewis County Solid Waste Utility and Lewis County WSU Master Recycler Composter Volunteers have brought together residents who are handy at a variety of crafts to repair clothing, furniture, electronics, bicycles and jewelry, and sharpen garden tools, scissors and knives, according to a news release from the Lewis County Department of Public Works.

“We’re excited to offer another Repair and Sustainability Fair to Lewis County residents,” said Melanie Case, sustainability program coordinator for the Lewis County Department of Public Works Solid Waste Utility. “Our volunteers will help people repair their broken items, teach them a new skill and help keep material out of the landfill.”

A document shredding truck will be on site from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot off Pear Street. Residents can bring up to three bags or boxes of documents they would like shredded. The shredded paper will be hauled to a paper recycling facility.

Information booths on how to live a more sustainable life, a “stuff swap” table, and kids crafts will also be available.

The event is funded through a Public Participation Grant from the Department of Ecology. For more information on this event and other upcoming events, visit www.lewiscountywa.gov/recycle
