Travelers who use northbound Interstate 5 in Grand Mound during evening and overnight hours will want to build extra time into their trips.

Washington state Department of Transportation maintenance crews will work to repair the driving surface of the highway over several evenings and nights beginning Thursday, Oct. 12.

From 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, until 4 a.m. Friday, Oct. 13, portions of northbound I-5 between Grand Mound and the Scatter Creek Rest Area will be reduced to one lane.

The same will be true from 8 p.m. until 4 a.m. Oct. 16-19.

Motorists are advised to expect congestion and backups during evening hours, according to a WSDOT news release.

“Travelers are encouraged to go early or late to avoid congestion,” WSDOT stated in a news release. “Please consider combining trips or rescheduling non-essential travel.”

The work is weather-dependent and could be rescheduled.
