Strong Atmospheric River Arrives Monday – Local impacts expected beginning Monday morning, a strong atmospheric river will bring heavy rainfall, rising rivers, and increased landslide concerns across Lewis County.
According to today’s NWS briefing, all river forecasts have trended upward, and heavier precipitation has shifted back northward into the south/central Cascades — directly affecting the Chehalis and Cowlitz river basins.
What this means locally:
• Rising river levels are expected Monday evening through Wednesday.
• Widespread significant river flooding is expected across Western Washington, including the Chehalis and Cowlitz Basin.
• Urban/small stream flooding is possible in low-lying areas.
• Landslide risk is elevated in our foothills and steep-slope areas.
WIND ADVISORY FOR LEWIS COUNTY – MONDAY 7 AM TO 10 PM
A Wind Advisory has been issued for Foothills and Valleys of Thurston and Lewis Counties, including Chehalis, Centralia, Napavine, Winlock, Pe Ell, Mossyrock, and Morton.
• South winds 15–25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph
• Unsecured outdoor items may blow around
• Tree limbs may fall; isolated power outages are possible

Flood Timing for Lewis County from today’s NWS river outlook:
• Rivers may begin reaching flood stage as early as Monday evening
• The most significant flooding is expected Tuesday–Wednesday
• Mid-to-late week, flood risk continues to target the Chehalis and Cowlitz basins, including downstream communities
