Fueled by five players in double figures and a momentum-sealing 3-pointer at the halftime buzzer, the Toledo High School boys basketball team picked up a 71-61 victory over Rainier on Monday night at home.
Now at five straight wins heading into the playoffs, the Riverhawks (18-3, 13-3 C2BL) ended up in third place in the league standings, their best finish since winning the C2BL in 2019. They’ll face the eighth best team from the league in the first round of the district tournament on Saturday.
“It was a good battle,” Toledo head coach Grady Fallon said. “Kept our foot on the pedal, just unselfish basketball. (It was a) good tune up.”
Tyce Vigre nailed a game-tying trifecta to close the opening half and knot the game at 33 apiece. The Riverhawks outscored the Mountaineers (12-8, 9-7) by 12 points in the third quarter and held on for the win. Vigre finished with 15 points and Cooper Fallon recorded another double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds.
Adam Kruger notched 14 while Eli Weeks and Conner Hill recorded 12 points each for Toledo. Rainier, who will be the No. 4 seed in districts, was led by Peyton Sheaffer’s 23 points and Jimmy Meldrum registered 16 points.
