Riverhawks rally down four, lose heartbreaker to Fishermen

Despite notching just one hit and clawing its way back from a multi-run deficit, Toledo’s baseball team got bit by the walk-off bug as Ilwaco plated the game-winning run to triumph 5-4 on Saturday afternoon in a non-league contest.

One batter into the last half-inning and three pitches later, Boston Caron launched a solo home run to end the game. The Riverhawks (8-9) tied the game in the top of the seventh on a two-out wild pitch.

Toledo’s bats were quiet, but effective in discipline as it drew seven walks. After it loaded the bases with two outs, an RBI walk lit up its half of the scoreboard and Gavin Frewing laced a two-run single to make it a 4-3 game.

Ilwaco took advantage of an infield error by the Riverhawks to jump out in front 4-0. Their only earned run was the final one. Toledo returns to C2BL action with a league doubleheader versus Onalaska on Monday.
