Riverhawks Swept by Ducks

Downed in back-to-back games against the league champion Toutle Lake, the Toledo baseball team couldn’t muster enough runs in 11-0 and 11-1 defeats on the road Monday evening.

Facing off against Oregon-bound Toutle pitcher Jackson Cox in the first game, the Riverhawks couldn’t get a hit off the ace, and Conner Cox mashed a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning to put the cherry on top of a dominant display. Ryker Sorenson got the start on the mound for Toledo, going 4 ⅔ innings with 10 earned runs on eight hits and six walks.

In the second game, the Riverhawks managed seven hits off Toutle’s third rotation pitcher, Cam Wheatley, but just one run in an 11-1 five inning defeat. Toledo got off Wheatley early, scoring its lone run in the first, but couldn’t sustain that success in the latter innings. Meanwhile, the Ducks kept mashing, and scored two in the fifth inning to walk it off in five.

The Riverhawks will turn to an ever-important league matchup against Onalaska on Tuesday on the road.
