Just three batters stepped to the plate in the bottom of the seventh and chaos ensued for the Toledo High School softball team to triumph 11-10 over Raymond/South Bend at home on Thursday night.
Kailea Lairson drew a leadoff walk, Camryn Hurley laced a single and the winning run was in scoring position. After a wild pitch moved both runners, Zaya Norberg dribbled a grounder to the pitcher and the play at the plate was off the mark.
Toledo (9-3) erased a 6-1 deficit with a nine-run second inning fueled by three RSB errors, four extra base hits and three walks. Taysia Miller made it a one-run game with a bases clearing triple, Peyton Holter roped a double to tie the game and Lairson’s own RBI double put it in front.
The Ravens tied the game at 10-10 with three in the seventh, but a double play ended the rally. Holter had four hits, Lairson recorded three and the duo scored four total times. Brenna Carver snared the win in the circle with six strikeouts.
Toledo will face Adna in a key league game on Saturday afternoon.
