Rochester shrinks margin versus Shelton, falls just short

The Warriors welcomed head coach Caleb Sells back to the sideline on Tuesday night, but couldn’t deliver a victory in dropping a 49-34 verdict to the Highclimbers at home. Just 11 days ago, these two teams met and Shelton walked away with a 38-point win.

Rochester (0-7) trailed by two at the half, but being outscored 31-18 in the final two frames sealed its fate. Still, Sells was pleased with the effort seeing his younger team for the first time live after viewing them on film.

“It has been really cool to see the freshmen start to play faster,” Sells said. “At the same time, the coaches have instilled (the mindset) of we’re growing. I hope they see the growth.”

Sophomore Emmitt Mancuso led the way with nine points for the Warriors while Tyson Canales added seven. They shot 3-of-18 from downtown, but Sells felt they were all good shots that didn’t drop.

Rochester will face a pair of 2A opponents in Aberdeen on Thursday and Centralia on Friday.
