Rochester’s Smith earns all-league MVP award on defense

Thanks to a fielding percentage of 94 and turning five doubles plays, Rochester High School senior Kole Smith was named as the Class 1A Evergreen League’s Defensive MVP on the all-league team released on Tuesday.

Smith only committed five errors and finished with a team-best 31 assists in 79 total chances. A pair of Montesano sophomores – Colton Grubb and Kolson Hendrickson – claimed the Offensive MVP and Pitcher of the Year award, respectively.

League runner-up Tenino came away with four first team honorees. Here’s the complete first, second and honorable mention teams.
