Ron Brown and Lyle Overbay Golf Tournaments Happening Next Month

Posted

Both the Ron Brown and Lyle Overbay annual golf tournaments will occur over the weekend of Sept. 10.

The second annual Ron Brown Tournament will start at 10 a.m. at the Newaukum Valley Golf Course on Saturday, Sept. 10.

The 17th annual Overbay “Cage Match” Tournament will start at 10 a.m. at the Riverside Golf Course on Sunday, Sept. 11.

Both tournaments will be four-person scramble team events. In a press release, Overbay explained why both tournaments will be happening back-to-back.

“Last year, Coach Brown’s tournament was like a big reunion and we thought putting them on the same weekend this year might bring in some people from out of town to stay for the weekend and have the opportunity to play in both,” Overbay said.

Brown was Centralia High School’s basketball coach for 58 years and saw his teams win 723 games over his career as well as two state championships. Overbay is a Centralia High School graduate who went on to play a 14-year-long career in Major League Baseball where he was a first baseman for the Diamondbacks, Brewers, Blue Jays, Pirates, Braves, Red Sox and Yankees.

Proceeds will go to the Ed Wheeler Field Improvement Fund.
