Ignited by two goals apiece by Trinity Smith and Iza Hernandez, the Tigers posted their second consecutive shutout in a 5-0 victory over the Eagles on Tuesday night in Elma. After allowing eight goals in two losses, Centralia (2-2) has dished out two clean sheets.
It was also a “get back” match for Tigers head coach Luis Magana. Three years ago, when he took over the program, their first result was a 5-0 loss to Elma.
“This was a game that had been on the back of my head for a while,” Magana stated. “I am extremely happy the girls came out strong. This is great momentum.”
All four of Smith and Hernandez’s goals came in the final 40 minutes. Smith got the party started with a shot from the 18-yard box in the 44th minute and added another in the final 20 minutes of regulation. Hernandez slotted home her two tallies in the 57th and 75th minute.
Eva Renitz put Centralia in front at the half in the 32nd minute. Smith, Ana Blankenship, Cyndal Sills and Ty Leal-Minor all recorded assists. Centralia will take on its third straight Class 1A team on Thursday at Montesano.
