Seven area golfers qualified for the state tournaments this week, including six from the 2A EvCo and one from the 1A Evergreen League.
Rochester’s Clayton Knutson earned a trip to state as a freshman, winning a playoff against Montesano’s Colton Grubb to earn the district’s 14th and final state spot.
After shooting an 89 on Day 1, Knutson shot an 85 on Day 2, including just a five-over 41 on the back hole, to force the playoff.
On the playoff hole, Grubb shot a 6, but Knutson found the cup in five to advance.
In the 2As, W.F. West, Tumwater, and Black Hills are sending two golfers each, and a pair of Bearcats also grabbed alternate spots.
Tumwater’s Braeden Konrad was the area’s highest finisher, shooting a 152 over the two-day tournament to finish third, and Baylor Olson tied with Black Hills’ Logan Stallings at 159 apiece to finish ninth.
Black Hills is also sending Kendell Roberson, who tied for 11th at 160, and W.F. West’s Jax Potter logged the same score and also tied for 11th.
W.F. West’s Emmett Goodman finished tied for 16th with Ridgefield’s Evan Yost at 162, and those two grabbed the district’s final two state spots.
W.F. West’s Jayce Ayers and Fox Rogerson finished in 19th and 20th, making them the second and third alternates.
The state tournament will take place at Tumwater Valley on May 19 and 20.
