Law enforcement officers and volunteers are on day three of a multi-agency search for a Hubbard hunter who went missing in the Mount Hood National Forest southeast of Estacada on Friday.
Devon Dobek, 51, was first reported missing on Friday evening when he did not return from a hunt at the time he’d told friends to expect him, according to information provided by the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office.
Dobek’s car was found at the Fish Creek Trailhead, off Southeast Highway 224 and 54 Road, according to the sheriff’s office. No sign of Dobek or the deer he had reportedly told friends he’d bagged were found at the truck.
The search was still ongoing at noon on Sunday “with lots of additional resources,” Brian McCall, public information officer for the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office said in an email.
McCall said the agency would share more updates later in the day on Sunday.
Clackamas County Search and Rescue coordinators were searching for Dobek by 10:30 on Friday evening in an effort that continued through the night. According to the sheriff’s office, searchers heard gunshots that could have been from the missing hunter, but were unable to pinpoint where they were coming from.
On Saturday, more than 20 searchers used ATVs, dogs and drones to search. Volunteers from Mountain Wave Search and Rescue, Pacific Northwest Search and Rescue, Hood River Crag Rats, Lake Oswego Police Department’s drone team and Portland Mountain Rescue joined the search on Saturday. Additional searchers from the Washington, Multnomah and Marion County Sheriff’s Offices were set to join the effort on Sunday.
The sheriff’s office said it does not need any additional volunteers for the search.
The sheriff’s office urged anyone with information about the missing hunter to contact call 503-723-4949 or submit a tip online via the “Submit A Tip” form on our website or through the ClackCo Sheriff mobile app. Please reference CCSO Case # 25-022972
