Shorthanded Cardinals fall to Chinooks

A shorthanded Winlock girls basketball team couldn’t get much rolling in Kalama on Wednesday, and the Cardinals fell 40-10.

Winlock (1-4, 0-2 C2BL) entered the game without Adriana Garcia, and Kindyl Kelly had to leave the game with an injury early in the second quarter, leaving a young lineup in place to take on Kalama.

The Chinooks took advantage, taking a 27-8 lead into halftime, and the Cardinals scored just two points in the second half.

Kendyl Guenther came down with 10 rebounds and scored two points, while Natalie Cardenas corralled six rebounds and scored four points. Freshman Lili Wisner was thrusted into the lineup, and she got her first taste of varsity action.

“A young group played tonight, and they played hard,” Winlock coach Dracy McCoy said.

The Cardinals return home and begin a three-game homestand on Friday, when they’ll host Toutle Lake.
