Sirens: Boy won't go to school, reports grandmother; Child claims to have been kidnapped; Girl causes $1,000 in damage to home; Flock cameras strike again

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Vehicle accidents 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 200 block of South Pearl Street at 8:05 a.m. on Sept. 20. 

• A vehicle backed into a fence in the 300 block of West Summa Street at approximately 8:05 p.m. on Sept. 20. Minor damage to the fence was reported. No injuries were reported. 

• One vehicle left the roadway and struck the guide wires to a power pole at the intersection of Floral and South Gold streets at approximately 9:15 p.m. on Sept. 20. The driver was not injured and claimed they fell asleep at the wheel, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A non-injury school bus vs. passenger car collision was reported at the intersection of North Pearl and West Sixth streets just after 8:55 a.m. on Sept. 21. 

• A minor, non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Harrison and Fords Prairie avenues at approximately 3:15 p.m. on Sept. 21. 

 

Hit-and-run 

• A hit-and-run reported at the intersection of Galvin Road and Harrison Avenue was reported at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 21. The suspect vehicle is a silver Honda van. 

• A hit-and-run was reported at the intersection of South Tower Avenue and West Cherry Street at approximately 7:50 p.m. on Sept. 21. The suspect vehicle is a white van. 

 

Burn ban violation 

• A citizen was cited for “having an illegal fire” in the 2700 block of Borst Avenue at approximately 10:05 a.m. on Sept. 20. 

 

Theft 

• Shoplifting was reported at a shoe store in the 100 block of West High Street just after 10:45 a.m. on Sept. 20. The suspect reportedly got into a green Ford Escort and fled the scene. 

• A wallet was reported stolen from the 900 block of Harrison Avenue at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 20. The case is under investigation. 

 

Fraud 

• At 8:35 a.m. on Sept. 21, there was a report of an unknown person using a victim’s credit card to purchase merchandise in the 100 block of West Maple Street. 

 

Possession of stolen property 

• At 7:05 a.m. on Sept. 21, security at a motel in the 1200 block of Alder Street called to report a female who was believed to be smoking fentanyl. Security also advised dispatch that an associated male had tried to kick the door in. An officer arrived on scene and located the male, 30, of Olympia, and discovered he had an outstanding Department of Corrections warrant.  During a search of the male incident to arrest, suspected meth and credit cards belonging to another individual were located on his person. The male was booked into the Lewis County Jail on his warrant and for second-degree possession of stolen property. An additional charge of knowingly possessing a controlled substance was referred to the court. The female left the scene prior to the officer's arrival.

 

Drug violations 

• A student was “caught with marijuana” at Centralia Middle School in the 900 block of Johnson Road at 11 a.m. on Sept. 20. 

• Just after 12:55 p.m. on Sept. 20, Centralia officers located a vehicle in the 900 block of Harrison Avenue that was involved in a theft from a store in Chehalis. Officers detained the occupants, a 35-year-old Olympia man and a 30-year-old Tumwater man. Both subjects were cited for possession of illegal narcotics. 

 

Disorderly conduct 

• At approximately 3:15 p.m. on Sept. 20, officers responded to a report of an unidentified male subject “swinging a machete around” in the reporting party’s residential front yard in the 300 block of Meridian Avenue. The subject left the scene before officers arrived.

 

Burglary  

• Officers responded to an audible burglary alarm at a business in the 1400 block of Lum Road just after 4:15 a.m. on Sept. 21. Dispatch advised that the business’s security camera system showed people inside the business at the time of the alarm. The subjects fled the scene before officers arrived. About 15 minutes later, patrol units were dispatched to another audible burglary alarm at a business in the 2000 block of Borst Avenue. Officers arrived on scene and contacted a witness, who said they saw the suspects leave in two vehicles, according to the Centralia Police Department. “Using the Flock security camera system, officers were able to confirm that the suspects involved in this burglary were the same suspects involved in the Lum Road burglary,” the Centralia Police Department stated. The case is currently under investigation.

 

Malicious mischief 

• A juvenile female was arrested in the 1400 block of Reynolds Avenue just after 7:40 a.m. on Sept. 21 and was booked into the Lewis County Juvenile Detention Center for second-degree malicious mischief after she allegedly caused over $1,000 in damage to a residence. 

• Vandalism to common areas in an apartment building in the 700 block of H Street was reported just after 9:55 a.m. on Sept. 21. The suspects reportedly “dumped paint and sprayed graffiti” inside the building. 

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Drug violation 



• A case involving a drug violation that was reported in the 300 block of Southwest 16th Street just before 8 a.m. on Sept. 20 is under investigation.

 

Theft 

• A theft reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 9:50 a.m. on Sept. 20 is under investigation. 

• A subject was arrested in the 1700 block of North National Avenue just after 12:55 p.m. on Sept. 20 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for third-degree theft. The subject allegedly threw a propane bottle at the reporting party. 

• An unidentified suspect reportedly stole items from a job site at the intersection of North National Avenue and Northeast Coal Creek Road at approximately 9:45 a.m. on Sept. 21. 

• A third-degree theft reported in the 500 block of South Market Boulevard just before 3:05 p.m. on Sept. 21 is under investigation.  

• A male subject reportedly stole a $199.99 webcam from a business in the 1700 block of North National Avenue just before 4 p.m. on Sept. 21. 

• Items were reported stolen out of a boat in the 1300 block of Southwest Kelly Avenue at approximately 5:55 p.m. on Sept. 21. 

 

Criminal trespassing 

• Just after 11:10 a.m. on Sept. 20, an employee at a business in the 1300 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue reported a woman “set up a table for signatures” regarding gas price increases outside the business and refused to leave. The woman reportedly told the employee to “Go ahead and call the cops, she is protected.” The reporting party was “advised of state law” and the woman was not trespassed. 

• A woman was reportedly “soliciting” in front of a business in the 1300 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at approximately 1:50 p.m. on Sept. 20. Officers were unable to confirm if the woman was the same subject from the 11:10 a.m. report. 

• A male subject was cited for trespassing in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 9:20 a.m. on Sept. 21. 

• Four subjects were trespassed and accused of previously stealing from a business in the 500 block of South Market Boulevard at 5:35 p.m. on Sept. 21. 

 

Hit-and-run 

• Just after 1:50 p.m. on Sept. 20, a hit-and-run that occurred in the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue between 4:45 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. the day prior was reported. 

 

Suspicious circumstances 

• A subject was reportedly “going through people’s trash” in the 200 block of Southwest James Street just after 7:35 p.m. on Sept. 20. 

• Just after 12:10 a.m. on Sept. 21, a caller in the 1500 block of North National Avenue reported she believes “the neighbor is using a master key to break into (her) unit when she goes out to feed her cats.” The caller said she believes the neighbor stole “her valuable Thomas Kinkade prints” and other art pieces. 

 

Juvenile problems 

• Just after 7:40 a.m. on Sept. 21, a woman in the 400 block of Northeast Washington Avenue called to ask for help with her 13-year-old grandson who “won’t get up for school,” advising “she was going to pour water on him but he won’t listen.” During the call, the woman discovered her grandson had left the residence on a bicycle and was unsure where he went. 

• Around 5:55 p.m. on Sept. 21, an employee at a business in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue reported a 7-year-old male was at the customer service desk “stating the mom kidnapped him from his dad.” Officers confirmed the father is legally restrained from contacting the child and there was “no evidence of kidnap from (the) father.” 

 

Harassment 

• Just after 9:40 a.m. on Sept. 21, a male in the 800 block of Northwest Harrison Avenue reportedly made comments “about his neighbors, saying he was going to arm himself heavily and take care of the problem himself.” The incident is under investigation.

• Just before 4:40 p.m. on Sept. 21, a male subject in the 200 block of Southwest Second Street called to report “he was being harassed” after he “stepped outside to have a cigarette and saw something suspicious next to his truck.” The male did not elaborate on the harassment, stating “he’s harassed everywhere he goes and somehow trash just keeps showing up.” Dispatch noted the caller was “being really disorderly” and was “not making any sense, just rambling.” 

 

Disorderly conduct 

• A male subject was reportedly “breaking rocks (and) being disorderly” outside an apartment complex in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street just after 5:20 p.m. on Sept. 21. 

 

Dog in car 

• A “dog in distress” was reported inside a parked car in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 5:10 p.m. on Sept. 21. The reporting party noted the car’s window was cracked but the dog was “panting really bad (and) drooling.” The vehicle’s owner returned during the call and got into a verbal dispute with the reporting party. 

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Friday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 155 inmates, including 142 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 109 were reported male and 33 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.
