Sirens: Caller claims listening devices planted at church; Middle school student attacks staff; Overdose at Fort Borst Park; Pumpkins stolen

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Vehicle accident 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 100 block of North Tower Avenue just after 12:40 p.m. on Oct. 9. 

 

Hit-and-run 

• A hit-and-run to a sign was reported in the 1300 block of Lum Road at approximately 7:15 p.m. on Oct. 10. 

 

Theft 

• Pumpkins and mail were reported stolen from private property in the 900 block of J Street at approximately 2:05 p.m. on Oct. 9. 

• Money was reported stolen out of a wallet at a business in the 1400 block of Harrison Avenue at 7:35 p.m. on Oct. 9. The victim reported the wallet was taken while she was shopping and she got it back after another shopper turned it in, but approximately $390 was missing. 

• A green 1998 Honda Passport was reported stolen out of the driveway of a residence in the 900 block of East Locust Street at 3:45 p.m. on Oct. 10. 

• A flag was reported stolen from the front porch of a house in the 1200 block of Ward Street just before 7:35 a.m. on Oct. 11. 

 

Overdose 

• Officers responded to a possible overdose near the soccer fields in Fort Borst Park in the 100 block of Pioneer Way just after 7:25 a.m. on Oct. 10. Officers arrived on scene and contacted a woman who appeared to have overdosed but was now conscious and breathing. Aid units arrived on scene and transported the woman to the hospital for treatment and further evaluation.

 

Criminal trespass 

• A man from Glenoma and a woman from Longview were cited for camping at Riverside Park  in the 300 block of Lowe Street just after 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 10. 

 

Assault 

• A Centralia Middle School student was referred to the prosecutor's office for fourth-degree assault charges after they allegedly pushed and struck staff members who were trying to calm the student down. The student was taken to a medical facility under the Involuntary Treatment Act due to the attempts to harm themself and others, according to the Centralia Police Department. 

 

Malicious mischief 

• Damage to a vehicle parked in an apartment complex parking lot in the 1100 block of Scammon Creek Road was reported just after 2:55 p.m. on Oct. 10. The damage reportedly occurred over an extended period of time.

Disorderly conduct 

• Officers responded to a report of a disorderly subject at a private residence in the 1300 block of St. Helens Street just after 6:15 p.m. on Oct. 10. 

 

Possession of stolen property 

• Just before 7:20 p.m. on Oct. 10, officers located a “suspicious vehicle” in the parking lot of a department store in the 100 block of West High Street. The vehicle’s window was “shattered out” and the vehicle was reportedly backed into a parking stall with no front license plate and the VIN covered on the vehicle’s dash. Officers noted “this is commonly done on stolen vehicles” and advised this was “a common tactic for people who intend on stealing from this particular store.” Officers contacted the vehicle’s two occupants, a male and a female, inside the department store and, “after providing a false name to officers, the male suspect ran from the business, exiting through the emergency exit,” according to the Centralia Police Department. Officers obtained a search warrant for the vehicle’s VIN and found it was reported stolen out of Oregon. The female suspect, 19, of Oregon, was cited for possession of suspected fentanyl. Officers were unable to locate the male suspect, a 45-year-old Vancouver man who is wanted on multiple felony arrest warrants. Possession of a stolen vehicle and criminal impersonation charges against the man were referred to the Lewis County Prosecutor's Office. 

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Theft 

• A third-degree theft reported in the 1800 block of North National Avenue at approximately 7:40 a.m. on Oct. 9 is under investigation. 

• Just after 11:50 a.m. on Oct. 9, a green 1996 Honda Accord was reported stolen from the 10 block of Southwest Sixth Street sometime overnight. 

• A possible vehicle theft was reported in the 1700 block of North National Avenue at approximately 4:50 p.m. on Oct. 10. 

 

Juvenile problem 

• A runaway juvenile was located in the 1000 block of Southwest 20th Street at 10:05 a.m. on Oct. 5. 

 

Disorderly conduct 

• Just after 12:35 p.m. on Oct. 9, a disorderly male subject reportedly got out of a green Ford Explorer in the roadway in the 1400 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue and was “trying to fight everyone.” 



• A male subject associated with a green Ford Explorer reportedly “stopped and kicked (a) ladder over and drove off” while a maintenance worker was on the roof of a building in the 10 block of Southwest Third Street just after 2:20 p.m. on Oct. 9. The reporting party got the ladder back up and reported the worker was safe. 

 

Hit-and-run 

• A hit-and-run was reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 9. 

 

Vehicle accidents 

• A non-injury, non-blocking, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way and Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 8:45 a.m. on Oct. 10. 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 400 block of North Market Boulevard just after 2:55 p.m. on Oct. 10.  

• A non-injury, non-blocking, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Northwest Louisiana Avenue and Northwest Arkansas Way just after 7:40 a.m. on Oct. 10. 

 

Suspicious circumstances 

• Just after 7:05 p.m. on Oct. 9, a caller reported “two homeless tweakers” were “digging through” a truck in the 800 block of West Main Street. 

• At approximately 7:15 p.m. on Oct. 9, a caller reported a male subject who “appears transient”  was going back and forth between an apartment and a vehicle in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street. The caller later advised “he thinks (the subject) lives there (and) he isn’t homeless as (the caller) initially thought.” 

• Just before 11:05 a.m. on Oct. 10, a caller reported someone “illegally planted listening devices” at a church at the intersection of North National Avenue and Northeast Division Street. The caller “demanded that police conduct sweeps of his personal vehicle for tracking, listening and spying devices.” The caller was “advised that the police department does not possess this tech.” The officer who took the call noted the caller “was not making much sense and sounded confused.” 

 

Disputes 

• A verbal dispute was reported in the 1500 block of North National Avenue just before 7:40 p.m. on Oct. 9. 

• Two male subjects were reportedly “screaming (and) fighting in the middle of the road” in the 500 block of Northwest Pacific Avenue just after 2:05 p.m. on Oct. 10. 

• A verbal dispute between multiple subjects and a tow truck driver was reported in the 200 block of West Main Street at approximately 5:10 p.m. on Oct 10. 

Criminal trespass 

• A male subject reportedly tried to get into a residence in the 300 block of Southwest James Street just after 8:45 a.m. on Oct. 10. 

• A caller asked officers to trespass a woman staying at a residence in the 100 block of North Market Boulevard from the residence. The caller advised the woman “was initially allowed to stay (but was) now refusing to pack her items and leave.” The officer who handled the call explained the tenancy laws in Washington and advised the caller of the process for obtaining eviction orders and protection orders. The officer noted the “reporting party was NOT satisfied with this.” 

• A male subject was reportedly trespassing at a store in the 500 block of South Market Boulevard just before 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 10. Store employees asked officers to move along two associated male subjects in the store. 

 

Drug violation 

• A Chehalis Middle School student was cited for possession of marijuana at the school in the 1000 block of Southwest 20th Street at approximately 9:50 a.m. on Oct. 10. 

 

Malicious mischief 

• A case of third-degree malicious mischief reported in the 100 block of Northeast Hampe Way just after 10:15 a.m. on Oct. 10 is under investigation. 

• A case of third-degree malicious mischief reported in the 500 block of Northwest Pacific Avenue at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 10 is under investigation. 

 

Harassment 

• A caller in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street reported receiving harassing text messages and calls from a male subject at 1:55 p.m. on Oct. 10. 

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Wednesday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 155 inmates, including 142 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 109 were reported male and 33 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.
