Sirens: Caller turns himself in for having meth; man cited for harassing parking enforcement officer; Lewis County Superior Court

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Hit-and-run

• A vehicle reportedly struck a stop sign at the intersection of Southwest 11th Street and Southwest McFadden Avenue just after 12:30 p.m. on May 16 and fled the scene. The reporting party advised that the vehicle “spun out but didn’t crash.”

• A hit-and-run was reported in the 200 block of Southwest 13th Street just before 2:40 p.m. on May 17.

 

Vehicle accidents

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Northwest Maryland and Northwest State avenues just after 10:30 a.m. on May 20.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of North National Avenue and Northeast Coal Creek Road just before 2:55 p.m. on May 20.

 

Theft

• Three teenage suspects reportedly shoplifted bottles of alcohol from a store in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 3:50 p.m. on May 16.

• A third-degree theft reported in the 1500 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 5:40 p.m. on May 16 is under investigation.

• A wallet was reported stolen from the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 12:35 p.m. on May 18. The reporting party advised that he left it on an ATM “by mistake” and when he returned to get it, a bystander reported seeing someone take it.

• A possible theft of a trailer was reported in the 1000 block of Northwest Maryland Avenue just after 3:10 p.m. on May 18.

• Money was reported stolen from the glove box of a vehicle in the 10 block of Southwest 10th Street at approximately 3 p.m. on May 19. The reporting party said the theft occurred while he was taking groceries inside.

 

Drug violation

• A 56-year-old Centralia man reportedly called the police to say he “wants to turn himself in” and had meth in his possession in the 300 block of West Main Street just after 6:55 p.m. on May 16. He was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.

Burglary

• A second-degree burglary reported in the 300 block of Southwest James Street just before 8:15 p.m. on May 16 is under investigation.

• A burglary reported in the 100 block of Southwest Eighth Street just after 2:35 p.m. on May 20 is under investigation.

 

Shooting complaint

• A subject reported possibly hearing eight to 10 gunshots near the intersection of Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way and North National Avenue just after 11:35 a.m. on May 17.

 

Malicious mischief

• Damage to a garage in the 1500 block of Southwest Mills Avenue was reported just before 1:25 p.m. on May 17.

 

Fraud

• Counterfeit money was reported in the 1500 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 6:35 p.m. on May 17.

 

Criminal trespass

• A 56-year-old man was cited for trespassing in the 1300 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 12:15 p.m. on May 18.

 

Vehicle prowl

• A vehicle prowl was reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 2:05 p.m. on May 19.

 

Assault

• A possible fourth-degree assault was reported in a parking lot in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 4:20 p.m. on May 19.

 

Recovered property

• A rented trailer that was reported stolen was returned in the 1000 block of Northwest Maryland Avenue just before 10:05 p.m. on May 19.

 



Eluding

• An attempt to elude reported in the 600 block of Northwest Folsom Street just before 9:20 a.m. on May 20 is under investigation.

 

Harassment

• A 40-year-old California man was cited for harassing a parking enforcement officer at the intersection of Northwest New York Avenue and Northwest West Street just after 2:50 p.m. on May 20.

 

DUI

• A 29-year-old Chehalis man was arrested for DUI in the 1300 block of Southwest Johnson Avenue just before 8:55 p.m. on May 20.

 

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Hit-and-run

• Just before 12:50 p.m. on May 19, a hit-and-run that occurred in a parking lot in the 1000 block of Harrison Avenue earlier in the week was reported.

 

Theft

• A lawn maintenance tool was reported stolen from the 100 block of West High Street just after 1 p.m. on May 19.

 

Malicious mischief

• Damage to a vehicle was reported in the 100 block of Eckerson Road at approximately 1:15 p.m. on May 19.

 

Theft

• Just before 1:20 p.m. on May 20, a bicycle was reported stolen from the 500 block of West Cherry Street sometime over the weekend.

Sentencing

• Brandon Allen Taylor, 48, of Yelm, was sentenced May 19 to 32 months in prison. He pleaded guilty April 23 to one count of delivery of a controlled substance, one count of possession of a controlled substance with intent to manufacture or deliver, one count of attempted possession of a controlled substance with intent to manufacture or deliver, two counts of third-degree assault and one count of attempt to elude.

• Robert Charles Beckhart, 57, of Morton, was sentenced May 19 to 90 days in jail with 88 days suspended and credit for two days served. A no-contact order in favor of the victim is no longer in effect.

• Laura Elizabeth Escoto, 41, of Des Moines, was sentenced May 18 to 29 days in prison with credit for 29 days served. A five-year no-contact order in favor of the Centralia Outlets is in place.

 

Change of plea

• Trevor R. Horner, 19, of Pe Ell, pleaded guilty May 19 to one count each of second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, attempting to elude and DUI and three counts of reckless endangerment. Sentencing is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on June 11.

 

FIRE AND EMS CALLS

• Between Monday morning and Wednesday morning, Lewis County 911 Communications logged approximately 45 illness-related calls, 19 injury-related calls, four fire-related calls, six non-emergency service calls, one vehicle accidents, two Lifeline medical alerts, one overdose, four suicide-related calls, one 911-hangup call and two other calls.

 

JAIL STATISTICS

• As of Wednesday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 161 inmates, including 148 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 123 were reported male and 25 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.

• As of Wednesday morning, the Chehalis Tribal Jail had a total system population of 19 inmates, including eight booked by the Centralia Police Department, four booked by the state Department of Corrections, three booked by the La Push Quileute Nation, one booked by the Skokomish Tribe, one booked by Chehalis Tribal Court and one booked by Chehalis Tribal Law Enforcement.
