Sirens: Children suspected in vehicle prowl; cellphone stolen at local business; arrests for theft, drugs

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Arrests

• Joel Melzer, 45, Centralia, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for third-degree theft in the 1000 block of South Yew Street at about 12:59 p.m. Thursday.

• Jennifer M. Hunt, 42, Centralia, was arrested for an outstanding Centralia Municipal Court warrant. Thomas I. Stearns, 43, Centralia, was arrested after he allegedly lied to officers when they were attempting contact with Hunt. Upon arrest, Stearns was found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine.

Burglary

• A back door to a local business was damaged in the 1100 block of Johnson Road at about 8:04 a.m. Thursday. No arrests have been made.

• A cellphone was reported stolen from a local business in the 100 block of East High Street at about 11:37 a.m. Thursday. The suspect went into an employee-only area and stole a cellphone. The suspect has been identified, and the case is still under active investigation.

Criminal trespass

• Caliope S. Dicus, 41, Centralia, was issued a criminal citation for second-degree criminal trespass after entering onto property she was previously trespassed from in the 100 block of South Pearl Street at about 3:33 p.m. Wednesday.

Hit-and-run accident

• No injuries were reported after a report of a bus striking a parked vehicle in the 200 block of South Tower Avenue at about 1:42 p.m. Wednesday. The case is still under investigation.

Theft



• Theft of a steel beam from a business was reported in the 900 block of West Main Street at about 6:51 p.m. Wednesday. This case remains under investigation.

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Accidents with injuries

• A two-vehicle collision with an unknown injury was reported at about 7:35 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29, on Southwest Parkland Drive and Southwest 13th Street. No arrests were made.

• A single-vehicle collision with airbag deployment was reported at about 3:51 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, on Southwest 13th Street and Southwest Wilson Avenue. No arrests were made.

Vehicle prowl

• A vehicle prowl occurred in the 900 block of Northwest Pennsylvania Avenue at about 1:36 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30. The reporting party reportedly has the incident on video, with children estimated to be 7 or 8 years old taking items. The reporting party told police that a similar incident has happened previously with one of the children.

JAIL STATISTICS

• As of Oct. 3, the Lewis County Jail had a total facility population of 163 inmates, including 151 in the general population and 12 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of the general population inmates, 130 were reported male and 21 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 10 were reported male and two were reported female.
