Sirens: Children told to steal items; Dogs chase older couple; Three fires set in garbage cans; Man reports being stabbed at bus stop

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Criminal trespass 

• Just after 9:40 a.m. on Sept. 6, a resident in the 700 block of South Ash Street reported there was a homeless camp behind their residence and asked the subjects to be moved along. The subjects left the scene before officers arrived. 

• Just after 10 a.m. on Sept. 6, there was a report of a homeless man camping on railroad property at the intersection of Elm and Alder streets. The man was referred to the Recovery Navigator Program for assistance, provided with other local resources and was trespassed from the property per railroad management’s request. 

• At approximately 10:05 a.m. on Sept. 6, a man inside a “suspicious vehicle with no license plates and a fraudulent trip permit” was trespassed from private property in the 1400 block of Johnson Road at the property manager’s request. 

• Just after 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 6, a citizen reported a group of homeless people were camping in a cemetery at the intersection of North Washington Avenue and West Maple Street. Officers contacted two men and a woman in the cemetery who had “sleeping bags and other various property laid out between grave sites.” The three subjects were trespassed from the cemetery. 

• A representative of a business in the 2000 block of Borst Avenue asked officers to trespass a man from the business just after 11:55 a.m. on Sept. 6. The man left the scene before officers arrived. 

• People who had been living in a vehicle on private property in the 500 block of Harrison Avenue for the last 10 days were trespassed from the property at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 6 at the property manager’s request. 

• A homeless person from Centralia was trespassed from a business in the 300 block of North Pearl Street at approximately 7 a.m. on Sept. 7 for “causing a disturbance.” 

 

Disorderly conduct 

• A man was reportedly yelling at customers outside a business in the 1000 block of South Gold Street just after 5:20 p.m. on Sept. 6. The man refused to leave when initially asked by an employee but did leave shortly after. An officer searched the area for the man but was not able to locate him. 

 

Suspicious vehicles 

• At approximately 11 a.m. on Sept. 6, there was a report of a “suspicious motorhome” that had been parked on the road in front of the reporting party’s residence in the 1400 block of Johnson Road for about a month. The caller said they believed the RV had been abandoned, but people were now loading items into the RV. An officer contacted the owner of the RV, advised him of local resources and informed him about city municipal codes regarding RV parking and camping. The RV’s owner moved the vehicle at the officer’s request. 

• A suspicious and/or abandoned RV was reported in front of Borst Park in the 2000 block of Borst Avenue just before 2:50 p.m. on Sept. 6. The RV’s owner had been warned several times for parking RV on roadway within city limits and camping, according to the Centralia Police Department. The RV was towed from the location.

 

Theft 

• Just before 11:40 a.m. on Sept. 6, a firearm was reported “stolen or lost” from the 110 block of West Maple Street sometime within the past two months. 

• A representative of a store in the 100 block of West High Street reported a man fled the store with two large bags of stolen property at 12:05 p.m. on Sept. 6 and left in a vehicle. Officers were not able to locate the suspect’s vehicle. The case is under investigation. 

• An unidentified female suspect reportedly stole over $100 worth of merchandise from a pharmacy in the 1200 block of Harrison Avenue just after 3:25 p.m. on Sept. 6. 

• An unidentified female suspect reportedly stole a wool sweater from an outlet in the 1300 block of Lum Road at 5:55 p.m. on Sept. 6. 

• Nearly $700 in merchandise was reported stolen from a business in the 1300 block of Lum Road just after 3:35 p.m. on Sept. 7. The suspects left the scene before officers arrived. 

• A 34-year-old Portland resident was cited for third-degree theft just after 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 7 after they allegedly stole several pairs of shoes from a business in the 1300 block of Lum Road. The subject fled on foot into a residential area but was located carrying the stolen boxes of shoes. 

 

Fraud 

• A case of fraud reported in the 1300 block of South Gold Street at approximately 5 p.m. on Sept. 6 is under investigation. 

 

Assault 

• Just before 12:55 p.m. on Sept. 6, a man reported “being stabbed at or near a bus stop” in the 900 block of Old Airport Way, receiving minor injuries, a couple days prior. The case is under investigation. 

• A juvenile was arrested in the 1200 block of Marion Street just after 7:10 a.m. on Sept. 7 and was booked into the Lewis County Juvenile Detention Center for allegedly assaulting a parent. 

 

Vehicle accident 

• Just after 1:40 p.m. on Sept. 6, a non-injury, two-vehicle collision that occurred 20 to 25 minutes prior at the intersection of West Reynolds Avenue and Johnson Road was reported. 

 

Hit-and-run 

• Just before 6:40 p.m. on Sept. 6,  a business owner in the 200 block of South Tower Avenue reported they came out to find that someone had wrecked their vehicle and did not leave information behind. 

 

Fires 

• Officers are investigating three separate fires that were set in garbage cans in the downtown Centralia area around 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 6.  “As of now, there are no suspects or leads,” according to the Centralia Police Department. 

 

Malicious mischief 

• Third-degree malicious mischief charges against a 20-year-old Centralia man were referred to a local prosecutor’s office at approximately 11 p.m. on Sept. 6 after he allegedly broke a window out of a vehicle during a dispute in the 1200 block of West Main Street. The man fled the scene before officers arrived. 



• A 17-year-old girl was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Juvenile Detention Center just after 12:50 a.m. on Sept. 7 for allegedly damaging the walls of a residence in the 1400 block of West Reynolds Avenue.

 

Drug violation 

• A 31-year-old Olympia man was cited for possession of fentanyl in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue just after midnight on Sept. 7. 

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Vehicle accidents 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Northwest West Street and Northwest State Avenue at 8:15 a.m. on Sept. 6. 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Southwest 12th Street and Southwest McFadden Avenue just after 11:40 a.m. on Sept. 7. 

 

Hit-and-run 

• A possible hit-and-run was reported in the 1500 block of Southwest Thomsen Avenue just after 10:45 p.m. on Sept. 7. 

 

Vicious dog 

• At approximately 9:40 a.m. on Sept. 6, a caller reported two loose pit bulls had “just chased an older couple and their little dogs” in the 700 block of Southwest 19th Street. 

 

Animal negligence/abuse 

• A case of animal negligence/abuse that was reported in the 500 block of Southwest William Avenue just after 2:55 p.m. on Sept. 7 is under investigation. 

 

Theft 

• A vehicle prowl was reported in the 400 block of North Market Boulevard at 11:40 a.m. on Sept. 6. 

• Just before 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 6, a catalytic converter was reported stolen from the 1500 block of North National Avenue sometime overnight. 

• At approximately 7:35 a.m. on Sept. 7, a case of shoplifting that occurred in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue a few months prior was reported. 

• A case of third-degree theft was reported at the intersection of Northeast Washington Avenue and Northeast Park Street just after 2 p.m. on Sept. 7. 

• At 8 p.m. on Sept. 7, a theft that occurred in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue the day prior was reported. 

 

Suspicious circumstances 

• Just after 12:10 p.m. on Sept. 6, a caller reported a woman was videoing her while she was walking her dog in a park at the intersection of Southwest 13th Street and Southwest Mills Avenue. 

• Just before 6:35 p.m. on Sept. 6, a caller reported a suspicious gold Buick missing its left rear hubcap that had been “cruising through the parking lot a few times today.” The caller advised “they don’t belong there” and asked officers to trespass it from the area. 

• Two “suspicious males” were reported in the 600 block of West Main Street at 10:30 p.m. on Sept. 6. 

• A male in a white pickup was reportedly “making weird noises” in the 1000 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 7. 

• Just after 5:15 p.m. on Sept. 7, a caller reported her grandchildren told her an unidentified female dropped them off at a business in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue and “sent them in with a backpack and told them to steal items.” The children reportedly said “the female is holding their birth certificates and other personal items hostage.” At least one of the children was reunited with their parent and, after determining no crime had occurred in Chehalis, officers referred the case to another police department. 

• A suspicious male “armed with a billy club” was reportedly in a garage in the 500 block of Southeast Hilltop Drive just after 7:40 p.m. on Sept. 7. 

• A male was reportedly “swinging a stick or a baton” outside of a business in the 1500 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at approximately 9:10 p.m. on Sept. 7.  

• A subject was reportedly “letting off fireworks as they were driving” in the 900 block of Southwest Cascade Avenue just before 11 p.m. on Sept. 7. 

 

Dispute 

• A verbal dispute was reported in the 600 block of Southeast Dobson Court just after 7:40 p.m. on Sept. 7. 

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Friday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 131 inmates, including 118 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 91 were reported male and 27 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.
