Sirens: 'Distraught' woman finds child; man with machete, knives refuses to leave business; reckless burning reported

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Theft

• Just before 1:55 p.m. on Aug. 7, a woman reported $300 was missing from her purse after she left her purse near the checkout counter of a hair salon in the 200 block of South Tower Avenue while she was getting her hair cut. The case is under investigation.

 

DUI

• A 28-year-old Centralia woman was arrested for DUI and hit-and-run to an unattended vehicle in the 300 block of South Street just after 7:50 p.m. on Aug. 7.

 

Criminal trespass

• A homeless woman was trespassed from a business in the 1000 block of Eckerson Road at an employee’s request just before 5:50 a.m. on Aug. 8.

 

Vehicle prowl

• Just before 7:30 a.m. on Aug. 8, an attempted vehicle prowl that took place in the 1000 block of J Street sometime overnight was reported.

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Hit-and-run

• Just before 10:05 a.m. on Aug. 7, a hit-and-run that occurred in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue the day prior was reported.

Vehicle accident

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way and Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 2:20 p.m. on Aug. 7.

 

Sexual misconduct

• A case of sexual misconduct reported in the 200 block of Southwest 13th Street just before 2:15 p.m. on Aug. 7 is under investigation.

 

Found children

• A “distraught female” in the 700 block of Southwest William Avenue reported she could not find her 3-year-old son at 3 p.m. on Aug. 7. She found the child, who was safe, while she was still on the line with police.



• A citizen reported finding two unaccompanied children, a 2-year-old and a 3-year-old, playing in the roadway at the intersection of Southwest Second Street and Southwest Cascade Avenue just after 6 p.m. on Aug. 7. The citizen located the children’s father about 15 minutes later.

 

Disorderly conduct

• A woman in the 200 block of Northeast Washington Avenue reported her neighbor had blocked off a portion of the roadway with cones just before 4:10 p.m. on Aug. 7. The neighbor told police “he was working on his vehicle and needed a small section (of the road) so he did not get stuck in his yard,” according to the Chehalis Police Department. The neighbor advised he would move the cones once he moved the vehicle.

 

Child abuse or neglect

• Child abuse or neglect that was reported in the 2000 block of Jackson Highway just after 8:45 p.m. on Aug. 7 is under investigation.

 

Criminal trespass

• A man who had a machete and two other knives on his person who refused to leave a business in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at approximately 11:25 p.m. on Aug. 7 was moved along.

• A man reportedly tried to open the drive thru window of a business in the 200 block of West Main Street just after 6:20 a.m. on Aug. 8. He was later seen going through the business’ garage.

 

Reckless burning

• A small fire was reported in the 10 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue at 12:50 a.m. on Aug. 8. The fire was extinguished and the involved party was warned about reckless burning.

 

FIRE AND EMS CALLS

• Between Wednesday morning and Friday morning, Lewis County 911 Communications logged approximately 61 illness-related calls, 19 injury-related calls, 15 fire-related calls, four non-emergency service calls, three vehicle accidents, two medical helicopter requests, two Lifeline medical alerts, one missing person report, one public assist request and seven other calls.

 

JAIL STATISTICS

• As of Friday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 136 inmates, including 123 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 91 were reported male and 32 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.

• As of Friday morning, the Chehalis Tribal Jail had a total system population of 16 inmates, including seven booked by the Centralia Police Department, six booked by the state Department of Corrections and three booked by the Lummi Nation.
