Sirens: Dogs attack person; White 'kidnapper' van with 'free kittens' sign reported; Urinating near a door; theft; assault; burglary

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Theft 

• Just after 11:10 a.m. on Aug. 23, a tent was reported stolen out of the bed of a pickup in the 700 block of North Pearl Street sometime overnight. 

• A Chehalis man was cited for shoplifting from a store in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue at 7:25 p.m. on Aug. 23. 

• A wallet was reported stolen from the 1300 block of South Gold Street at 4:15 p.m. on Aug. 24. Video surveillance reportedly confirmed the wallet’s owner dropped it and another person picked it up. The case is under investigation. 

• Three women wearing “long robe-type clothing and facial coverings” reportedly stole items from a business in the 1300 block of South Gold Street just before 5:45 p.m. on Aug. 24 and fled in a van being driven by a man. The vehicle was located on the FLOCK camera system in Centralia and later in Kent. Police are still working to identify the suspects.

 

Criminal trespass 

• An employee at a business in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue asked officers to trespass two people from the business’s property just after 12:05 p.m. on Aug. 23. The subjects left the area before law enforcement arrived. 

• A homeless man reportedly trespassed on a property in the 1300 block of Belmont Avenue just after 1:35 p.m. on Aug. 23. The man reportedly “became disorderly and yelled at people working on the property.” 

• A homeless man from California was trespassed from a business in the 300 block of North Tower Avenue just after 4:40 p.m. on Aug. 23 for reportedly “becoming belligerent with other customers and accusing them of stealing his coins.”

• A homeless person from California was trespassed from a business in the 900 block of Harrison Avenue at approximately 11:05 p.m. on Aug. 23 for disorderly conduct. 

• A homeless woman from Centralia was trespassed from a business in the 700 block of Harrison Avenue at approximately 2:10 p.m. on Aug. 24. 

Malicious mischief 

• Graffiti was reported on a garage door and fence in the 500 block of West Fourth Street just after 1:10 p.m. on Aug. 23. 

• Damage to a sprinkler in the 300 block of North Gold Street was reported at 3:10 p.m. on Aug. 23. The reporting party said the damage was caused by a group of juveniles. 

• At 11:15 a.m. on Aug. 24, a caller reported someone broke into their trailer in the 1200 block of Alder Street and damaged property within. The case is under investigation. 

• At approximately 7:15 p.m. on Aug. 24, there was a report that someone had thrown eggs onto multiple vehicles in the 1400 block of Eshom Road. 

• At 6:05 a.m. on Aug. 25, there was a report that someone spray painted letters onto ramps at a Riverside Skate Park at 313 Lowe St. sometime overnight. 

 

Assault 

• Just after 10:40 a.m. on Aug. 24, a woman reported she was assaulted by her boyfriend in the 1400 block of Oxford Avenue. The case is under investigation. 

 

Vehicle accident 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 1300 block of South Gold Street at 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 24. 

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Suspicious van 

• Just after 5:45 p.m. on Aug. 23, a caller reported a “white kidnapper van with really dark tinted windows” with a cardboard sign reading “kittens for sale” was parked in the 1400 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue. The caller reported the vehicle’s “door is barely cracked open (and it) looks like it’s from a horror movie, like ‘come get a kitten and you’ll be kidnapped,’” according to the Chehalis Police Department.  

• Just after 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 23, a caller reported a suspicious “white van with a sign in the back that said ‘free kittens’” was in a parking lot in the 1500 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue. The caller advised the van was parked for about an hour before moving on and said “no one got out of the vehicle at any point.”

 

Scam 

• A phone scam was reported in the 300 block of Southwest Ninth Street just after 8:10 a.m. on Aug. 23. 



 

Theft 

• A possible theft of a phone was reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 6:20 p.m. on Aug. 23. The reporting party stated she left the phone in a shopping cart the day before and when she called the phone, an unknown subject answered and told the reporting party she’d return the phone to the store. The phone had not been turned in as of the time the report was made. 

 

Harassment 

• A woman who was reportedly harassing an employee at a business in the 500 block of Northwest Pacific Avenue at approximately 2:20 p.m. on Aug. 23 was trespassed from the business. 

 

Vehicle accident 

• A delivery van reportedly crashed into a ditch at the intersection of Southwest 14th Street and Southwest Johnson Avenue at 2:50 p.m. on Aug. 23. No injuries were reported. 

 

Criminal trespass 

• A male subject who was reportedly panhandling in the 500 block of South Market Boulevard was trespassed from a property in the 500 block of South Market Boulevard. 

• A disorderly male subject was trespassed from a property in the 1400 block of Northwest Airport Road just before 8:35 p.m. on Aug. 23. 

• A man reportedly urinated by the door of a building in the 300 block of Northwest North Street at 7:50 a.m. on Aug. 24. 

 

Burglary 

• A male subject accused of breaking into a yard in the 200 block of West Main Street just before 9:25 p.m. on Aug. 23 was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree burglary. 

• A possible attempted burglary was reported in the 1500 block of North National Avenue at approximately 10:50 a.m. on Aug. 24. 

• A burglary that occurred in the 1400 block of Northwest Airport Road at 3 a.m. on Aug. 22 was reported just before 11:20 a.m. on Aug. 24. 

 

Malicious Mischief 

• A case of third-degree malicious mischief reported in the 300 block of Northeast Washington Avenue at 6 a.m. on Aug. 24 is under investigation. 

 

Disorderly conduct 

• A man was reportedly “aggressively panhandling” in the 1400 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 1:35 p.m. on Aug. 24. 

 

Vicious dogs 

• Two unattended dogs reportedly attacked someone in the 100 block of Southeast Westside Drive just after 6:15 p.m. on Aug. 24. Multiple attempts to catch the dogs between 6:15 and 8:10 p.m. were unsuccessful. The dogs’ owner was located at approximately 8:55 p.m. 

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Friday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 136 inmates, including 121 in the general population and 15 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 96 were reported male and 25 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 13 were reported male and two were reported female.
