Sirens: Employee Holds Thief Down, Handcuffs; Yelling, Cursing at Little League Game; Hit-and-Run; DUI Arrests

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Theft 

• At 12:30 p.m. on June 16, a black Chevrolet Tahoe was reported stolen from the 100 block of Sunnyside Drive the day prior. 

• A case of shoplifting was reported at a business in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue just after 8:35 p.m. on June 16. The female suspect reportedly fled in a gray Ford F150. 

• Police were dispatched to a theft at a business in the 100 block of West High Street at 7:15 p.m. on June 17. A male and a female were reportedly seen fleeing the store with four bags full of merchandise without paying for the items. Officers arrived and deployed a K9 in an attempt to track the suspects. The suspects were not located, however the K9 was able to locate and retrieve the stolen merchandise. Officers later learned that after the suspects fled from the store, they were observed running to a vehicle in the parking lot but could not get inside, as it was locked. The suspects then fled on foot.  Photos of the suspects and vehicle were obtained, according to the Centralia Police Department. 

• Items were reported stolen from a grave site in the 1800 block of Van Wormer Street at approximately 2:35 p.m. on June 18. 

 

Forgery 

• A forgery case reported in the 300 block of North Tower Avenue just after 9:20 a.m. on June 17 is under investigation. 

 

Suspicious Person

• Just after 1:55 p.m. on June 16, officers responded to a report of a “strange male” outside a residence in the 200 block of North Washington Avenue. “He was described as ‘creepy’ and the caller wanted the officers to ‘get him,’” according to the Centralia Police Department. No arrests were made. 

 

Vehicle Accidents 

• Minor injuries were reported following a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of West Fourth and North Pearl streets at approximately 2:20 p.m. on June 16. One lane of traffic was blocked for about an hour. 

• A vehicle reportedly crashed into a concrete barrier at the intersection of Harrison Avenue and northbound Interstate 5 just after 7:45 p.m. on June 17. No injuries were reported. 

 

DUI 

• Rodney A. Haynes, 49, of Centralia, was arrested in the 1200 block of Johnson Road just before 2:40 p.m. on June 17 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for allegedly driving under the influence. 

• Anthony D. Saucedo III, 18, of Rochester, was arrested in the 1400 block of Harrison Avenue at approximately 6:30 p.m. on June 17 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for allegedly driving under the influence.

 

Hit-and-Run 

• Officers were dispatched to a hit-and-run crash in a residential neighborhood in the 800 block of West Plum Street just before 11 p.m. on June 17. The suspect had reportedly collided into a parked vehicle, causing reportable damage to both vehicles. The driver and his female passenger fled on foot. Police located the female passenger a few blocks away from the collision and the driver, a 20-year-old Centralia man, was issued criminal citations for reckless driving and hit-and-run to an unattended vehicle. 

 

Attempt To Contact 

• Officers were asked to have a homeless man from Centralia move along from the 1000 block of Pioneer Way just before 1:50 p.m. on June 17. 

• Officers moved along a homeless woman from Centralia who was yelling in an alley in the 300 block of North Tower Avenue just after 1 p.m. on June 18. 

 

Disorderly Conduct 

• Officers contacted a homeless man from Winlock in the 2000 block of Borst Avenue just before 2:30 p.m. on June 17 after callers reported he was “yelling and cursing behind a little league game that was in progress.” The man reportedly “agreed to stop his behavior,” according to the Centralia Police Department. 

• Officers responded to the report of a disorderly homeless male harassing other people outside a shelter in the 100 block of North Gold Street just before 9:20 p.m. on June 17. The shelter asked officers to trespass the male from the property if they locate him. An officer searched the area for the male but was unable to locate him.

• Officers were asked to contact a disorderly woman in a grocery store parking lot in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue just after 9:05 a.m. on June 18. The woman walked away after officers contacted her. 

 

Assault 

• A Centralia man was cited for fourth-degree assault in the 1000 block of Eckerson Avenue just after 4:10 p.m. on June 17.

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT 



Theft 

• A case of shoplifting was reported in the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 12:55 p.m. on June 16. 

• A man who reportedly stole a backpack and donuts from a business in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 10:15 p.m. on June 16 was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree theft. 

• Two 12-packs of Twisted Tea beverages were reported stolen from a business in the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue at approximately 2:05 a.m. on June 17. 

• A vehicle prowl reported in the 1000 block of Northwest State Avenue just after 7:05 a.m. on June 19 is under investigation. 

 

Assault 

• A case of fourth-degree assault reported at the intersection of Northeast Cascade and Northeast Washington avenues just after 2:50 p.m. on June 16 is under investigation. 

 

Vehicle Accidents 

• Minor injuries were reported following a two-vehicle collision in the 500 block of Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way just before 3:40 p.m. on June 16. 

• A vehicle reportedly jumped a curb and crashed into a sign in the 1500 block of South Market Boulevard just after 6:45 p.m. on June 18. No injuries were reported. 

 

Criminal Trespass 

• A woman who was reportedly arguing with staff at a store in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 4:50 p.m. on June 16 after allegedly trying to shoplift from the store the week prior was trespassed from the business. 

• A man who reportedly refused to leave the lobby of a business in the 200 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue and had “been calling 911 all morning” was arrested at 8:35 a.m. on June 17 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for trespassing. 

• A disorderly man who was reportedly throwing things at, “cussing” and “flipping … off” the occupants of a residence in the 100 block of Southeast 16th Street at 10:45 a.m. on June 18 was trespassed from the property. 

 

Fraud 

• A case of “online fraud” was reported in the 300 block of Southwest 14th Street just after 4:55 p.m. on June 16. 

Suspicious Circumstances 

• At 5:20 p.m. on June 16, a caller reported two people were sitting on a bench in the 400 block of North Market Boulevard “smoking something out of a glass pipe.” 

• A possible burglary was reported in the 1500 block of North National Avenue at 12:05 a.m. on June 17. 

• A car was reportedly “driving very slowly” through a parking lot in the 2100 block of North National Avenue just after 11:15 p.m. on June 17. 

• A man was reportedly “banging on” a van and looking into the vehicle’s windows at the intersection of Southwest Ninght Street and Southwest Cascade Avenue just before 5:05 a.m. on June 18. 

• A man was reportedly “messing with an electrical box” at the intersection of Southwest Lewis Street and Southwest Cascade Avenue just after 10:20 a.m. on June 18. 

• A small child was found in the middle of the roadway in the 900 block of Southeast Adams Avenue just after 5:15 p.m. on June 18. The child was reunited with their parents. 

 

Robbery 

• A male who tried to shoplift from a business in the 1700 block of North National Avenue just after 4:25 p.m. on June 17 was apprehended after he allegedly “pushed through'' an employee who tried to stop him from leaving with stolen merchandise. The employee reportedly held the suspect down, handcuffed him and waited for law enforcement. The suspect’s wife and 2-year-old child were reportedly present at the scene during the incident. The suspect was booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree robbery. 

 

Dispute 

• A domestic dispute was reported in the 100 block of Southwest 11th Street just before 9:10 p.m. on June 18. Officers responded twice between 9:10 p.m. and 10:15 p.m. that day and found “no signs of physical assault/abuse.”
