Sirens: Felony hit-and-run; woman urinates on lawn, drives away; Centralia man arrested for robbery

LEWIS COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT

Preliminary appearances

• Ronald R. Filer, 39, Chehalis, made a preliminary appearance March 9 for one count of felony hit-and-run after he allegedly knocked a woman over with an open car door before fleeing the scene in January. The court set bail at $10,000 cash or bond. Filer pleaded not guilty during an arraignment on March 12.

• Rebecca J. Knowles, 37, Silver Creek, made a preliminary appearance March 9 for two counts of third-degree assault and single counts of fourth-degree assault (domestic violence) and resisting arrest after being contacted by Lewis County deputies responding to a reported domestic violence call. The court set bail at $10,000 cash or bond. A domestic violence no-contact order was entered on behalf of the alleged victim.

• Gabriel I. Gutierrez, 29, Rochester, made a preliminary appearance March 10 for single counts of first-degree criminal impersonation and third-degree driving with a suspended or revoked license after he allegedly assumed a false identity during a traffic stop. The court set bail at $20,000 cash or bond. Gutierrez pleaded not guilty during an arraignment on March 12.

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Arrests

• Tyler Staley, 18, Centralia, was arrested in the 1000 block of South Yew Street at about 10:03 p.m. March 11 and booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree robbery. Staley was allegedly involved in the theft of goods from a local business and had allegedly made a threat of physical violence to an employee to retain the stolen items. Prosecutors declined to file charges, according to court documents. According to police, a juvenile was also referred to the Lewis County Juvenile Court for third-degree theft for his alleged involvement in the incident.

• James C. Tryon, 51, Centralia, was arrested in the 300 block of Linda Lane at about 11:52 a.m. March 11 and booked into the Chehalis Tribal Jail for alleged criminal trespass of private property. Police added an additional charge of resisting arrest after Tryon allegedly attempted to physically resist being put into handcuffs.

Accidents

• A two-vehicle collision with potential minor injuries was reported in the 1000 block of Harrison Avenue at about 2:46 p.m. March 12.

Criminal trespass

• A transient individual was trespassed from a business in the 900 block of Ellsbury Street at about 7:53 a.m. March 11 at the request of staff, after he was found camping near the entryway.

• Two transient individuals were trespassed from a park in the 500 block of North Pearl Street at about 7:53 a.m. March 11 after police discovered they were camping against city code.

• A subject was trespassed from a business in the 1000 block of Eckerson Road at about 10:38 a.m. March 11 for disturbing customers.

• A transient individual was trespassed from a business in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue at about 4:17 p.m. March 12 after staff recognized him as having engaged in threatening and violent behavior during past visits.

• Officers responded to a report in the 1500 block of Lum Road at about 10:06 p.m. March 12 indicating a woman had pulled her vehicle into the yard of a private residence — damaging the grass — and begun urinating in public. Officers attempted to locate the vehicle, which left before their arrival, suspecting a possible DUI, trespass, and violation of city code related to public urination. Officers then checked Flock cameras to attempt to identify and locate the suspect’s vehicle. Officers reportedly checked addresses in Centralia believed to be associated with the vehicle, but were unsuccessful. The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office was notified of the incident, since police suspected the vehicle had left northbound out of the city. Officers later contacted the reporting person to determine if additional information could be obtained and to provide an update. According to police, the suspect was not located.

DUI

• Jeannie Carroll, 68, Rochester, was arrested and booked into the Chehalis Tribal Jail for DUI after police allegedly found Carroll operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated in the 200 block of North Pearl Street at about 9:26 p.m. March 12.



Found property

• Police recovered possible stolen property in the 1000 block of North Washington Avenue at about 10:17 p.m. March 12. The case is under investigation.

Nuisance violation

• Justin Bedortha, 35, Centralia, was issued a criminal citation in the 700 block of South Gold Street at about 9:58 p.m. March 11 for loitering for drug-intended purposes, after he had allegedly remained in the area of a known drug house for multiple hours.

Theft

• Medication and money were reported stolen from a residence in the 1600 block of Johnson Road at about 10:55 a.m. March 11.

Vehicle prowl

• Tools from a work truck were reported stolen in the 1200 block of Mellen Street at about 11:24 a.m. March 12. The case is under investigation.

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Arrests

• Russell J. Moody, 64, was arrested near the corner of Jackson Highway and Rush Road at about 10:13 p.m. March 10 and booked into jail for an alleged warrant and for allegedly  obstructing a law enforcement officer. 

JAIL STATISTICS

• As of March 13, the Lewis County Jail had a total facility population of 159 inmates, including 146 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of the general population inmates, 117 were reported male and 29 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.

• As of March 13, the Chehalis Tribal Jail had a total jail population of 15 inmates. Of those, eight were from Centralia, one was from Chehalis and five were from the Department of Corrections. Additionally, there was one from the Suquamish Tribe.
