Sirens: Illegal campfire in Borst Park, man in a wheelchair waving a knife, pit bull loose in a hotel

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Criminal trespass

• A homeless man found camping at Borst Park in the 2000 block of Borst Avenue just after 9:35 a.m. on Aug. 19 was trespassed from the park and cited for having an illegal campfire.

• A homeless man was trespassed from a business in the 1400 block of Mellen Street at approximately 9:55 a.m. on Aug. 19 at the business’s request.

Theft

• A 40-year-old Olympia man was arrested and booked into the Chehalis Tribal Jail for allegedly stealing from a business in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue just before 12:10 p.m. on Aug. 19.

• A theft involving a possible juvenile suspect reported in the 200 block of North Tower Avenue just after 1 p.m. on Aug. 20 is under investigation.

• A suspect reportedly tried to steal alcohol from a store in the 1300 block of South Gold Street just before 8:05 p.m. on Aug. 20. The suspect left the scene before officers arrived.

Assault

• A fourth-degree assault that reportedly took place at a public park in the 100 block of South Pearl Street just after 7:45 p.m. on Aug. 20 is under investigation.

• A 37-year-old Centralia resident was arrested for fourth-degree assault, domestic violence, in the 700 block of West Chestnut Street at 11:25 p.m. on Aug. 20.

• A 33-year-old Centralia man was arrested for fourth-degree assault, domestic violence, in the 800 block of West First Street just after 3 a.m. on Aug. 21.

Drug violation

• A 69-year-old Centralia man and a 51-year-old Centralia man were cited for possession of suspected fentanyl and meth in the 500 block of Harrison Avenue at approximately 3:40 a.m. on Aug. 20 after officers contacted them sitting in “a suspicious vehicle.”

Burglary

• Lawn equipment was reported stolen from a locked and enclosed shed on private property in the 1100 block of Caveness Drive just after 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 20. The case is under investigation.

DUI

• A 57-year-old Centralia woman was arrested for DUI at the intersection of South Gold and East Summa streets at approximately 11:35 p.m. on Aug. 20. An officer pulled her over for a routine traffic stop and found she was under the influence of narcotics, according to the Centralia Police Department.

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Assault

• A subject was cited for fourth-degree assault at the intersection of Southwest Sixth Street and Southwest McFadden Avenue after officers responded to a report of a verbal dispute at about 10:50 a.m. on Aug. 19.

Harassment

• Harassment reported in the 300 block of Southwest 11th Street at approximately 11:45 a.m. on Aug. 19 is under investigation.

Suspicious circumstances

• A man in a  wheelchair was reportedly “waving around a 12-inch knife” at the intersection of Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way and Northwest State Avenue just before 3:50 p.m. on Aug. 19.

Vicious dog

• A pit bull that was acting aggressively was reportedly loose at a hotel in the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue just before 6:10 p.m. on Aug. 19. Hotel staff were unable to locate the guests who own the dog.

Vehicle prowl

• A vehicle prowl was reported in the 10 block of Southwest McFadden Avenue just before 1:20 a.m. on Aug. 20. 

FIRE AND EMS CALLS

• Between Monday morning and Wednesday morning, Lewis County 911 Communications logged approximately 45 illness-related calls, 21 injury-related calls, 15 fire-related calls, one non-emergency service call, three vehicle accidents, two Lifeline medical alerts, one suicide-related call, one pregnancy-related call, one suicide-related call, one medical helicopter request and one other call.

JAIL STATISTICS

• As of Wednesday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 145 inmates, including 132 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 102 were reported male and 30 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.

• As of Wednesday morning, the Chehalis Tribal Jail had a total system population of 14 inmates, including seven booked by the Centralia Police Department, three booked by the state Department of Corrections, three booked by the Lummi Nation and one booked by the Skokomish Tribe.
