CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT
Arrests
• Julius Paul, 37, Centralia, was arrested at the corner of Harrison Avenue and Denny Way at about 2:25 a.m. Jan. 31 and booked into the Lewis County Jail for allegedly driving under the influence and consuming and possessing liquor in public. Paul was allegedly “actively drinking” alcohol in his vehicle at the time of the traffic stop, according to police.
• Anthony Martin, 25, Chehalis, was arrested at the corner of West Pine Street and North Oak Street at about 1:26 a.m. Feb. 1 and booked into the Lewis County Jail for an alleged DUI.
• Rebecca S. Bunting, 42, Tenino, was arrested in the 1000 block of South Yew Street at about 3:30 a.m. Feb. 1 and booked into the Lewis County Jail for alleged third-degree theft and third-degree driving with a suspended license after she was reportedly caught shoplifting.
• Zane M. T. Smith, 33, Centralia, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for the following alleged crimes and warrants: residential burglary domestic violence warrant; second-degree identity theft; third-degree malicious mischief warrant; and multiple counts of a domestic violence protection-order violation. Smith was allegedly arrested after a search warrant was obtained so officers could enter a structure where he was hiding. The investigation began in the 700 block of Harrison Avenue at about 8:36 p.m. Jan. 28.
• Stephanie M. Sampson, 46, Centralia, was arrested at the corner of West Main Street and North Pearl Street at about 1:49 a.m. Feb. 2 for allegedly driving under the influence and attempting to elude a police vehicle. According to police, an officer had attempted to contact Sampson, who was allegedly travelling the wrong direction on the roadway. The officer developed suspicion of DUI and Sampson allegedly fled. Officers pursued the fleeing vehicle as it reached alleged speeds of 70 to 80 mph inside city limits. The pursuit ended when Sampson allegedly arrived at her home and exited her vehicle.
Accidents
• Officers responded to the 900 block of South Tower Avenue at about 8:58 p.m. Jan. 31 to check on a male in distress who was reported to be near the railroad tracks. While officers were driving to the call, the male was reportedly struck by a train. According to police, officers and medics quickly arrived before transporting the male to the hospital with undisclosed injuries.
• Two pedestrians were hit by a motor vehicle while in a crosswalk at the corner of Harrison Avenue and Interstate 5 at about 5:48 p.m. Feb. 1. Both subjects were reportedly responsive when officers arrived and were evaluated at the scene by EMS.
• Officers responded to a report of a hit-and-run in the 900 block of Harrison Avenue at about 6:28 p.m. Feb. 1. There was no suspect information at this time.
Criminal trespass
• A male was trespassed for acting disorderly in a business and refusing to leave in the 1200 block of Mellen Street at about 9:15 a.m. Jan. 30. Officers reportedly contacted the male and notified him of the trespass. A crisis worker was also contacted to assist.
Driving violations
• Bartolo Garduno-Reyes, 40, Centralia, was arrested in the 300 block of Halliday Road at about 8:42 p.m. Jan. 30 and booked into the Lewis County Jail for allegedly not having an interlock ignition device installed in the vehicle he was driving, as well as allegedly driving with a suspended license.
Eluding police
• An officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a juvenile who was allegedly riding a minibike in a reckless manner on the roadway and sidewalks at the corner of North Tower Avenue and West Main Street at about 4:42 p.m. Jan. 31. The juvenile reportedly failed to stop and drove off the roadway in an effort to lose the officer. The officer eventually located the juvenile at his residence. He was arrested and booked into Lewis County Juvenile Detention for attempting to elude a police vehicle.
Order violation
• Officers investigated a potential order violation in the 1500 block of Ham Hill Road at about 4:17 p.m. Jan. 30.
Unlawful weapon display
• Officers responded to a report of two unidentified individuals in a car shooting a firearm into the air and driving away at the corner of North Tower Avenue and West Main Street at about 1:02 a.m. Jan. 31. The case is under investigation.

RIVERSIDE FIRE AUTHORITY
Response
• Riverside Fire Authority responded to a reported structure fire in the 3000 block of Horsley Avenue shortly after 1 a.m. Jan. 26, according to a news release from the agency. Upon arrival, personnel reportedly deployed a hose line and provided a “swift knock down of active fire in the attic.” According to the release, an occupant had awakened to a sound from the attic and discovered fire had breached the ceiling to the main floor. The occupant reportedly evacuated family members and initiated emergency services. According to the agency, the attic of the single-family residence sustained fire, smoke and water damage. Other parts of the home and its contents sustained damage from smoke and water. No personnel or bystanders were injured and no casualties were noted. The agency received mutual aid assistance from the Chehalis Fire Department. The cause of the fire was under investigation but appeared to be electrical related, according to preliminary investigation.
JAIL STATISTICS
• As of Feb. 2, the Lewis County Jail had a total facility population of 193 inmates, including 180 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of the general population inmates, 139 were reported male and 41 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.
• As of Feb. 2, the Chehalis Tribal Jail had a total jail population of 13 inmates. Of those, five were from Centralia, one was from Elma and two were from the Department of Corrections. Additionally, there was one each from the Skokomish Tribe, the Quileute Nation, the Suquamish Tribe, the Tulalip Tribe and the Chehalis Tribe.
