Sirens: Man arrested after hiding under house; equipment stolen from shed; man charged after breaking truck's windows

LEWIS COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT

Preliminary appearances

• Miguel Velasco Velasco, 23, Rochester, made a preliminary appearance July 13 for one count of second-degree malicious mischief after allegedly breaking a truck’s windows. The court released Velasco Velasco on a $10,000 unsecured appearance bond and scheduled an arraignment hearing for July 16.

• Lance A. Pennington, 50, Chehalis, made a preliminary appearance July 13 for one count each of fourth-degree assault, violation of a court order, and first-degree theft, all considered domestic violence offenses. The charges stem from an altercation between Pennington and his spouse that allegedly resulted in her sustaining minor injuries and him taking her cellphones. The court set bail at $10,000 cash or bond and granted a no-contact order on behalf of the spouse. Pennington was scheduled for an arraignment on July 16. According to Chehalis police, Pennington was arrested in the 2200 block of Southwest Salsbury Avenue at about 11:22 p.m. July 10.

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Arrests

• Joseph W. Fritzen, 42, Clarkston, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for alleged first-degree criminal trespass and use of drug paraphernalia in the 1000 block of South Yew Street at about 10:15 a.m. July 13. Police said Fritzen was hiding under a house and did not have permission to be there.

• Haley M. Nissell, 18, Cory R. Woods, 18, and Kayden R. Whisler, 19, of Chehalis, were arrested and booked into the Chehalis Tribal Jail for alleged third-degree theft in the 1000 block of South Yew Street at about 7:01 p.m. July 13.

Accidents

• A hit-and-run collision was reported in the 900 block of North Tower Avenue at about 2:38 p.m. July 14. Police said the suspect was reported driving a red Subaru-type car that should have damage to its front.

Burglary

• A shed was burglarized in the 1400 block of Grand Avenue at about 2:55 p.m. July 14. Police said a Stihl-brand chainsaw, a blower and a weed eater were reported stolen.

Identity theft

• Officers took a report of identity theft and fraud in the 200 block of West Main Street at about 3:05 p.m. July 13. The case is under investigation.

Landlord/tenant problem

• Officers responded to a reported burglary in progress in the 700 block of South Silver Street at about 10:37 a.m. July 14. The property owner alleged someone had broken into a residence and was still inside. Officers made contact with the subject, who reportedly turned out to be a tenant who was never evicted.

Malicious mischief

• Malicious mischief regarding a vehicle was reported in the 300 block of North Tower Avenue at about 3:26 p.m. July 13. The case is under investigation.

Methamphetamine

• Officers located suspected methamphetamine in the 1400 block of Harrison Avenue at about 2:08 p.m. July 14. The case is under investigation.

Theft



• Donald L. Meth, 62, Centralia, was referred to the Lewis County Prosecutor's Office for alleged second-degree theft in the 100 block of West Maple Street at about 9:27 a.m. July 13.

• An instrument was reported stolen in the 700 block of West Pear Street at about 3:19 p.m. July 14. The case is under investigation.

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Arrests, citations and referrals

• Daniel J. Beckwith, 48, was booked into the Lewis County Jail on outstanding warrants and one alleged count of resisting arrest in the 600 block of West Main Street at about 8:38 p.m. July 10.

• A 21-year-old male was issued a criminal citation for allegedly selling goods in a public place without prior consent in the 300 block of Hamilton Road at about 8:54 p.m. July 10.

• John D. Lopez, 46, was referred to the city prosecutor for alleged third-degree theft in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at about 4:24 p.m. July 11.

•  Daniel J.T. Adams, 30, was issued a criminal citation and booked into the Lewis County Jail for alleged possession of a controlled substance at the corner of Southwest John Street and Southwest William Avenue at about 1:05 a.m. July 12.

• Gregorio Cordero, 36, was booked into the Lewis County Jail for alleged first-degree trespass in the 700 block of Northwest Liberty Place at about 4:12 a.m. July 12.

• Derk J. Singleton was booked into the Lewis County Jail for an outstanding warrant and referred to the city prosecutor for alleged possession of a controlled substance in the 10 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue at about 9:04 a.m. July 12.

• Isaiah M. Tavarez, 19, was referred to the Lewis County Prosecutor's Office for review of four counts of alleged custodial assault in the 300 block of Southwest 11th Street at about 12:31 p.m. July 14.

JAIL STATISTICS

• As of July 15, the Lewis County Jail had a total facility population of 139 inmates, including 126 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of the general population inmates, 108 were reported male and 18 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.

• As of July 15, the Chehalis Tribal Jail had a total jail population of 15 inmates. Of those, one was from Centralia, one was from Chehalis, one was from Elma, one was from Napavine and five were from the Department of Corrections. Additionally, there were three from the Lummi Nation and one each from the Quileute Nation, the Shoalwater Bay Tribe and the Skokomish Tribe.
