Sirens: Man arrested for starting fire in vehicle; pedestrian struck by vehicle; woman arrested after walking away from police

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Obstructing

• A 50-year-old Lacey woman was arrested for obstructing a law enforcement officer after she reportedly tried to walk away during “a lawful detention by officers” who were detaining her as a suspect in a possible assault reported in the 1300 block of Lum Road just before 1:40 p.m. on May 16.

 

Assault

• A 26-year-old Olympia man was arrested for the fourth-degree assault of a staff member at a health care facility in the 3500 block of Steelhammer Drive at 4:50 p.m. on May 16.

 

Reckless endangerment

• A 50-year-old Centralia man was cited for reckless endangerment after he reportedly caused a fire in an occupied motor vehicle at the intersection of Art Lehmann Drive and South Yew Street by putting open fuel containers near live ignition sources just before 11:45 a.m. on May 17.

 

Hit-and-run

• A 22-year-old Centralia man was arrested for first-degree negligent driving, second-degree driving with a suspended license and hit-and-run in the 1100 block of Belmont Avenue at 12:40 a.m. on May 17. He was also booked on an outstanding Napavine Municipal Court warrant.

 

Vehicle accidents

• A vehicle struck a pedestrian crossing the street at the intersection of East Locust Street and South Tower Avenue at 1:45 p.m. on May 17. The pedestrian received medical attention and the driver received a traffic infraction.

• A non-injury collision was reported at the intersection of South Yew and Mellen streets just before 12:05 p.m. on May 18.

 

Theft

• A package was reported stolen off of a porch in the 300 block of North Washington Avenue just before 3:25 p.m. on May 17.

• A juvenile was referred on theft charges for shoplifting in the 1000 block of South Yew Street just after 9:20 p.m. on May 17.

• A 79-year-old Bucoda man was cited for shoplifting in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue at approximately 10:15 a.m. on May 18.



 

Drug violations

• A 25-year-old Olympia woman was arrested on a Centralia Municipal Court warrant and for possession of a controlled substance in the 1000 block of Harrison Avenue at 11:55 p.m. on May 16.

• A 39-year-old Centralia man was arrested on outstanding warrants and for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia in the 1700 block of Harrison Avenue at approximately 8:15 p.m. on May 18.

 

Malicious mischief

• A 40-year-old Centralia man was arrested for third-degree malicious mischief, domestic violence, in the 1600 block of Eshom Road just after 3:20 a.m. on May 17.

• Damage to a food trailer in the 2000 block of Haviland Street reported just before 1:25 a.m. on May 19 is under investigation.

 

Burglary

• A burglary that occurred in the 1000 block of Harrison Avenue overnight was reported just after 6:15 a.m. on May 19.

 

FIRE AND EMS CALLS

• Between Friday morning and Monday morning, Lewis County 911 Communications logged approximately 54 illness-related calls, 12 injury-related calls, 15 fire-related calls, three Lifeline medical alerts, nine non-emergency service calls, two hazardous conditions reports, six vehicle accidents, one overdose and three other calls.

 

JAIL STATISTICS

• As of Monday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 164 inmates, including 151 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 121 were reported male and 30 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.

• As of Monday morning, the Chehalis Tribal Jail had a total system population of 23 inmates, including 11 booked by the Centralia Police Department, six booked by the state Department of Corrections, three booked by the La Push Quileute Nation, two booked by Chehalis Tribal Law Enforcement and one booked by the Skokomish Tribe.
