Sirens: Man assaults his mother; Toilet smashed, staff assaulted at hospital; 'Homeless man' attempts to start fire; Coffee thrown at college worker

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Criminal trespass 

• At approximately 7:15 a.m. on Sept. 13, a homeless man from Tumwater reportedly tried to light a bush on fire on a business’s property in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue. Officers contacted the man and a witness, who advised the man did not succeed in lighting the bush on fire. The man was trespassed from the property at the property manager’s request. 

• A disorderly male reportedly threw coffee “at or toward” an employee in the 500 block of Centralia College Boulevard just after 12:20 p.m. on Sept. 13. The employee was not hit with the coffee or otherwise injured. The man was trespassed from the college at security’s request. 

• An unidentified homeless man reportedly trespassed on private property in the 1000 block of West Fifth Street just after 9:55 a.m. on Sept. 14. The man left on a bicycle before officers arrived at the scene. 

 

Burglary 

• A residential burglary was reported in the 200 block of M Street at 12:20 p.m. on Sept. 13. Several items were reported stolen from the residence, including “two stained glass antique lamps and a 2000 watt A1 generator.” 

 

Malicious mischief 

• “Tagging/vandalism” to a residential fence in the 1100 block of North Washington Avenue was reported just before 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 13. 

• A 50-year-old Chehalis man was cited for third-degree malicious mischief after he slashed the tires on his girlfriend’s vehicle in the 200 block of East Chestnut Street just after 3:10 p.m. on Sept. 14. 

• A 34-year-old Vader resident was cited for third-degree malicious mischief after “smashing a portable toilet and assaulting staff” at Providence Centralia Hospital in the 900 block of South Scheuber Road at approximately at around 9 p.m. on Sept. 14. 

 

Theft 

• Miscellaneous tools were reported stolen from a property in the 1100 block of Long Road just before 7:40 a.m. on Sept. 13. 

• A purse that was left in a shopping cart in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue was reported stolen just after 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 13. 

• A cellphone was reported stolen from a charity store in the 200 block of South Pearl Street just after 4:20 p.m. on Sept. 13. 

• A backpack was reported stolen out of a vehicle in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue at approximately 9:45 p.m. on Sept. 13. 

• Possible ID theft was reported in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue just after 9:05 a.m. on Sept. 14. The case is currently under investigation. 

• An unidentified female subject reportedly stole packages off of a porch in the 400 block of South Diamond Street just after 6:45 p.m. on Sept. 14. 

 

Vehicle accident 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of West Oakview Avenue and North Pearl Street just after 2:20 p.m. on Sept. 13. 

 

DUI 

• A 28-year-old Centralia man was arrested in the 1200 block of North Scheuber Road at approximately 8:40 p.m. on Sept. 13 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for driving under the influence. 

 

Hit-and-run 

• At 10:05 p.m. on Sept. 14, a caller reported a male driver hit her car as she was getting into it at a gas station in the 900 block of Harrison Avenue then fled the scene. 

 

Disorderly conduct 

• A “shirtless disorderly male” was reportedly “walking down the road (and) yelling” near the intersection of South Gold and Spruce streets just before 8:35 a.m. on Sept. 14. An officer searched the area for him but was unable to find him. 

 

Assault 

• Second-degree assault, domestic violence charges against a 41-year-old Centralia man were referred to a local prosecutor’s office after the man allegedly assaulted his mother during a dispute in the 300 block of Noel Avenue at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 14. The case is under investigation. 

• A 61-year-old Centralia man was arrested in the 800 block of West Pine Street just after 7:55 p.m. on Sept. 14 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree assault after he allegedly assaulted his ex-wife during a dispute. 

 



Dispute 

• A verbal dispute was reported in the 100 block of Virginia Drive at approximately noon on Sept. 13. 

• At approximately 5:35 a.m. on Sept. 14, there was a report of a homeless man “slapping a female” in a parking lot in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue. An officer searched the area but was unable to locate the subjects involved. 

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Dispute 

A verbal dispute was reported at the intersection of Southwest Chehalis Avenue and Southwest James Street just before 8:45 a.m. on Sept. 13. 

 

Sexual misconduct 

• A case of sexual harassment was reported in the 10 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue just after 11:10 a.m. on Sept. 13. 

• A report of pornography being made in the 10 block of Southwest Second Street at 4:40 p.m. on Sept. 13 is under investigation. 

 

Trespassing 

• A case of trespassing was reported in the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue just before 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 13. 

• A male subject sleeping by a door in the 400 block of North Market Boulevard at 8 a.m. on Sept. 14 was moved along. 

 

Open container 

• At approximately 9:05 a.m. on Sept. 14, a caller reported a male driving a green Toyota Tundra with a dog in the passenger seat and a baby carrier in the backseat in the 700 block of South Market Boulevard was drinking a beer. An officer responded, observed “no alcohol,” “no signs of intoxication” and “no evidence of drinking.” 

 

Disorderly conduct 

• A male subject was reportedly “taking his clothes off and screaming” at the intersection of Southwest Sixth Street and Southeast Adams Avenue just after 9:20 a.m. on Sept. 12. 

• A “disorderly shirtless male” was reportedly yelling “you’re going to be history” at a person in a library in the 400 block of North Market Boulevard at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 14. Library staff advised he had been trespassed from the property before, but officers noted the subject was not listed as trespassed. Officers were unable to locate him. 

 

Harassment 

• A case of harassment reported in the 500 block of Southeast Washington Avenue at approximately 10:05 a.m. on Sept. 14 is under investigation. 

 

Assault 

• A case of fourth-degree assault reported in the 300 block of Southwest 11th Street just after 8:05 p.m. on Sept. 14 is under investigation. 

• A subject was cited for fourth-degree assault in the 10 block of Southwest 12th Street at approximately 10:45 p.m. on Sept. 14. 

 

Vehicle prowl 

• A vehicle prowl was reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at approximately 8:10 p.m. on Sept. 14. The reporting party noted the vehicle was “so badly damaged the passenger door won’t latch.” A responding officer observed “no evidence of a crime” and noted the vehicle’s “door appeared faulty.” 

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Friday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 136 inmates, including 122 in the general population and 14 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 90 were reported male and 32 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 12 were reported male and two were reported female.
