Sirens: Man poops on steps, leaves smiley face balloon; John Doe pulls knife on employee; Stolen vehicle recovered

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Disorderly conduct 

• Just after 7 a.m. on Dec. 1, officers responded to a report of a disorderly male subject at a cold weather shelter in the 300 block of North Gold Street. The subject reportedly refused to leave and accused shelter staff of stealing “his marijuana and marijuana bong.” An officer asked the subject to re-check his own property for the items, and he located them. 

• A disorderly male subject reportedly yelled at staff inside a business in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue just after 1:20 p.m. on Dec. 1. The subject left the area before officers arrived. 

• A disorderly male subject was reportedly “screaming and yelling” near a store in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue at approximately 10:45 a.m. on Dec. 3. The subject left the scene before officers arrived. 

• A disorderly male subject was reportedly yelling outside of a residence in the 1600 block of Military Road just after 9:50 p.m. on Dec. 3. He was moved along at the property owner’s request. 

 

Theft 

• Just before 11:35 a.m. on Dec. 1, a business in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue reported a theft that occurred the day prior. 

• Just after 9:30 a.m. On Dec. 2, a bicycle was reported stolen from a residential porch in the 300 block of East Main Street sometime overnight. 

• Two unidentified subjects reportedly stole groceries from a store in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue at 3:55 p.m. on Dec. 3. 

 

Recovered vehicle 

• The FLOCK security camera system alerted officers of a stolen license plate in the 1300 block of Lum Road at 12:15 p.m. on Dec. 2. Officers located the vehicle backed into a parking stall at the Centralia Outlets and located the male and female suspects a short time later. The male subject allegedly admitted to stealing the license plate to avoid arrest on outstanding warrants. An additional license plate, as well as drugs and drug paraphernalia, were located inside the vehicle. The male suspect, 37, of Puyallup, was arrested and released with a citation for knowing possession of a controlled substance and possession of stolen property. He was not booked into the Lewis County Jail due to jail booking restrictions, according to the Centralia Police Department.  

 

Hit-and-run 

• At approximately 12:15 p.m. on Dec. 1, a hit-and-run that occurred in a private parking lot in the 600 block of Centralia College Boulevard three days prior was reported. 

 

Vehicle accidents 

• Just after 8:35 a.m. on Dec. 2, a non-injury, two-vehicle collision that occurred at the intersection of Harrison Avenue and southbound Interstate 5 the day prior was reported. 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of North Gold Street and Ham Hill Road just after 1:45 p.m. on Dec. 2. 

 

DUI 

• A 53-year-old Centralia man was arrested in the 1000 block of Harrison Avenue at 1:35 a.m. on Dec. 3 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for being in physical control of a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. 

 

Malicious mischief 

• Damage to the rear window of a vehicle in the 100 block of North Washington Avenue was reported just after 4:25 p.m. on Dec. 1. 

• Just before 9:45 a.m. on Dec. 2, there was a report of a homeless man “defecating on stairs leading up to a business, then leaving a smile face balloon” in the 200 block of Centralia College Boulevard. Officers obtained video of the subject. The case is under investigation. 

 

Extortion 

• Officers were dispatched to a grocery store in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue at 8:45 p.m. on Dec. 1 for a report of a disorderly homeless man who allegedly “pulled a knife on a grocery store employee for refusing to sell him alcohol.” Officers arrested the male and recovered the knife. He reportedly refused to identify himself and officers at the scene did not recognize him. Officers were told he recently arrived in Centralia, according to the Centralia Police Department. He was booked into the Lewis County Jail for first-degree extortion. He had not been identified as of Monday morning. 

 

Assault 

• A 35-year-old Aberdeen man was cited for fourth-degree assault, domestic violence, through Centralia Municipal Court after officers responded to an incident in the 1000 block of Eckerson Road just after 8:10 a.m. on Dec. 2. The man fled on foot before officers arrived. Officers were unable to locate him. 

 

Criminal trespass 

• A homeless man who refused to leave a property in the 1200 block of Lum Road at approximately 10:10 a.m. on Dec. 2 was asked to move along. 

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Disorderly conduct 

• A female subject was reportedly “screaming” at someone in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 7:30 a.m. on Dec. 1. 

• A disorderly male with a “husky-type dog” was reportedly yelling at people and saying “My dog will eat your dog” in the 400 block of North Market Boulevard at 4:45 p.m. on Dec. 1. 

• An elderly male subject reportedly called 911 from the 500 block of Southeast Hilltop Drive at approximately 5:20 p.m. on Dec. 1 and said he was “standing in front of a female being forced to use meth in front of me,” “I’m no longer a funny joke,” “I’m Superman, I’m right here, come in,” “I love you,” “this is the most ultimate emergency,” and asked for crisis services. He reportedly claimed to have a knife and refused to get off of the 911 line. Medical aid was dispatched. 

 

Disputes 

• A possible physical dispute was reported in the 400 block of Southeast Hilltop Drive just after 9:45 a.m. on Dec. 1. 



• A possible verbal dispute was reported in the 100 block of North Market Boulevard at 3:15 p.m. on Dec. 1. 

• A verbal dispute was reported in the 100 block of Southwest Fourth Street just before 3:40 a.m. on Dec. 2. 

• A verbal dispute over a parking space was reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 10:05 a.m. on Dec. 1. One party advised “he would shoot (the caller)” and the caller “said if the other driver pulls out a weapon, he will pull out his firearm.” 

 

Hit-and-run 

• A hit-and-run that occurred in the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue on Nov. 18 was reported at 9:50 a.m. on Dec. 1. 

 

Vehicle accidents 

• A non-injury, three-vehicle collision reported at the intersection of Southwest Parkland Drive and Southwest Pacific Avenue just before 12:50 p.m. on Dec. 1 is under investigation. 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way and Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 4:45 p.m. on Dec. 3. 

 

Theft 

• A third-degree theft reported in the 1100 block of South Market Boulevard just before 11:25 a.m. on Dec. 1 is under investigation. 

• A shoplift was reported in the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 1. 

• A shoplift was reported in the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 5:05 p.m. on Dec. 1. 

• “Tampered gift cards” were reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 9:40 a.m. on Dec. 2. 

• A bag was reported as possibly stolen from the 10 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue just before 9:40 a.m. on Dec. 3. 

 

Scam 

• A phone scam against an elderly woman was reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 3:50 p.m. on Dec. 1. The caller was “advised to have his elderly mother get off the line and not provide further info.” 

 

Welfare check 

• A caller requested a welfare check on a male subject in the 800 block of Southwest 21st Street just after 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 1. 

• Two children were reportedly left alone in a vehicle in the 1700 block of North National Avenue at approximately 12:25 p.m. on Dec. 2. Officers called the reporting party back for more info and weren’t able to leave a voicemail. 

 

Criminal trespass 

• A caller asked officers to check on a homeless man sleeping in a post office in the 200 block of Northwest Cascade Avenue just after 9:55 p.m. on Dec. 1. He was trespassed from the property. 

• A male subject who was reportedly digging through a dumpster in the 300 block of South Market Boulevard at 2:20 p.m. on Dec. 2 was trespassed from the property. 

 

Harassment 

• A case of harassment reported in the 2300 block of Airport Road just after 10:10 a.m. on Dec. 2 is under investigation. 

• Ongoing telephone harassment was reported in the 800 block of South Market Boulevard just after 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 3. 

 

Burglary 

• A possible burglary was reported in the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue just after 2:50 a.m. on Dec. 3. The reporting party reportedly advised he was armed, then later advised “he was bluffing about the gun,” according to the Chehalis Police Department. Officers found no evidence of a crime. The reporting party “decided to sleep in his car.” 

• Just after 7:10 p.m. on Dec. 3, a caller advised someone was trying to break into his taco truck in the 1500 block of North National Avenue. 

• A subject was reportedly trying to break into a property in the 1100 block of North National Avenue just after 9:55 p.m. on Dec. 3. 

 

Fire 

• A vehicle fire was reported in the 500 block of Southwest 19th Street at 4:35 a.m. on Dec. 3. The reporting party put the fire out using two fire extinguishers but officers had fire crews respond to ensure the fire was completely out. 

• A male subject reportedly started a fire in the 500 block of North Market Boulevard just before 7:40 p.m. on Dec. 3. The fire was extinguished. 

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Monday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 153 inmates, including 140 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 117 were reported male and 23 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.
