Sirens: Man steals liquor, spits on officers; K9 Havik alerts on drugs in vehicle; pair jailed for unlawful possession of firearm

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Arrests

• Anthony H. Garcia, 34, Chehalis, was arrested after allegedly stealing liquor from a local store in the 600 block of North Tower Avenue at about 12:24 p.m. Jan. 12. Upon contact, Garcia allegedly spit on officers and refused lawful commands.

• Broc R. Hertwig, 25, Olympia, was arrested after allegedly fleeing from a traffic stop in the 1000 block of Belmont Avenue at about 1:32 a.m. Jan. 13. Hertwig reportedly continued into Thurston County jurisdiction, where his vehicle tires were spiked and disabled. Hertwig allegedly admitted to being under the influence of narcotics and was subsequently arrested.

• Jennifer R. Mai, 45, Chehalis, was arrested in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue at about 9:14 p.m. Jan. 13 and booked into the Chehalis Tribal Jail for alleged third-degree theft, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and use of drug paraphernalia.

Accidents

• Elmer A. Cerritos-Portillo, 19, Centralia, was arrested in the 1000 block of South Yew Street at about 9:42 a.m. Jan. 12 after allegedly leaving the scene of a collision prior to police arrival.

• At about 10:33 a.m. Jan. 12, officers investigated a hit-and-run collision that reportedly occurred over the weekend at the corner of South Tower Avenue and East Locust Street.

Criminal trespass

• Two individuals were reportedly trespassed from a local business for acting disorderly in the 1000 block of South Yew Street at about 3:10 p.m. Jan. 12.

• Joshua E. Blankenship, 37, Centralia, was issued a criminal citation for second-degree criminal trespass at the corner of Harrison Avenue and northbound Interstate 5 at about 12:17 a.m. Jan. 13 after allegedly remaining on property from which he was trespassed.

• Vanessa F. Wilson, 48, Centralia, was arrested in the 900 block of Harrison Avenue at about 2:27 p.m. Jan. 13 after allegedly going onto property from which she was previously trespassed.

DUI

• Connor L. Sharbutt, 20, Chehalis, was arrested in the 2800 block of Borst Avenue at about 11:31 p.m. Jan. 12 for allegedly driving under the influence and being a minor in possession.



Identity theft

• Officers investigated the unlawful use of someone’s identity to gain employment in another state in the 300 block of West Pine Street at about 10:20 a.m. Jan. 12.

Possession of controlled substance

• Kristen M. Karboski, 44, St. Helens, was arrested at the corner of Harrison Avenue and the southbound Interstate 5 collector/distributor lane at about 7:46 p.m. Jan. 13 for alleged unlawful possession of a controlled substance and use of drug paraphernalia. During the traffic stop, K9 Havik reportedly alerted on the vehicle. Drugs were allegedly located.

• Jerry L. Albaugh, 59, Centralia, was arrested in the 8100 block of the northbound Interstate 5 collector/distributor lane at about 8:23 p.m. Jan. 13 for alleged unlawful possession of a controlled substance and use of drug paraphernalia. During the traffic stop, K9 Havik reportedly alerted on the vehicle. Drugs were allegedly located.

Unlawful possession of firearm

• Gary L. Johnston, 37, and Bethann M. Lake, 31, both from Kelso, were arrested for alleged unlawful possession of a firearm in the 600 block of Harrison Avenue at about 5:41 p.m. Jan. 12.  Officers reportedly contacted the vehicle and could see stolen property inside. After a search warrant was granted, officers searched the vehicle and allegedly located suspected methamphetamine, stolen shoes and a pistol.

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

JAIL STATISTICS

• As of Jan. 14, the Lewis County Jail had a total facility population of 180 inmates, including 167 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of the general population inmates, 133 were reported male and 34 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.

• As of Jan. 14, the Chehalis Tribal Jail had a total jail population of 20 inmates. Of those, 10 were from Centralia, two were from Chehalis and five were from the Department of Corrections. Additionally, there was one each from the Quileute Nation, the Suquamish Tribe and the Tulalip Tribe.
