Sirens: Man threatens family with hatchet; shoplifted merchandise recovered, woman arrested; officers attempt to pin fleeing vehicle

Centralia Police Department

Criminal trespassing

• A 48-year-old Centralia woman was arrested and booked into Chehalis Tribal Jail for second-degree criminal trespassing at about 8:30 a.m. Aug. 9 after being located on property in the 1600 block of Reynolds Avenue from which she was previously trespassed.

• A subject from Spokane was trespassed from a local business after being on the property without conducting business at about 1:47 a.m. Aug. 11 in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue.

• A transient female from Centralia was trespassed from a business after refusing to leave when asked by employees at about 11:16 a.m. Aug. 11 in the 1200 block of Mellen Street.

 

Vandalism

• At about 10:30 a.m. Aug. 9, officers responded to a report of a fence being vandalized at a local park in the 200 block of South Gold Street. Officers noted it is not known when the vandalism occurred.

 

Drugs

• A 28-year-old Winlock man was issued a criminal citation for unlawful possession of a controlled substance — methamphetamines — after being contacted at about 11:25 a.m. Aug. 9 at the intersection of East Chestnut Street and South Gold Street.

 

No-contact order violation

• A 65-year-old Centralia man was arrested for violating a no-contact order at about 10:15 p.m. Aug. 9 in the 900 block of L Street. 

 

Obstruction

• A 30-year-old Sacramento, California, man was arrested for obstructing officers at about 12:36 a.m. Aug. 10 in the 1400 block of Mellen Street.

 

Harassment

• John W. Quisenberry, 63, of Centralia, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for felony harassment after threatening to kill a family member with an ax sometime before 4 a.m. Aug. 10 in the 300 block of Wilding Street.

 

Merchandise recovered, theft suspect arrested

• An officer received a citizen report of shoplifting that had just occurred at an outlet store in the 1300 block of Lum Road at 11:59 a.m. Aug. 10.  The citizen learned of the theft via an online post from a witness who obtained a photo of the suspect vehicle. Officers checked the area for the vehicle but were unable to locate it. An officer spoke to other sources who identified the female suspect as Jessica N. Hart, 33, of Olympia. Deputies with the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office assisted Centralia police by checking Hart’s residence in Olympia. Hart was arrested and booked into the Chehalis Tribal Jail for third-degree theft.  Approximately $529.09 worth of merchandise from the outlet store was recovered and returned to the store.

 

Meth and a warrant

• At about 1:50 p.m. Aug. 10 at the intersection of East Summa Street and South Gold Street, Austin W. Jensen, 29, Centralia, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail on a Lewis County Superior Court warrant for failing to appear at court on a previous second-degree theft charge. Jensen was also issued a citation for knowingly possessing a controlled substance after officers located methamphetamine on his person.

 

Hit-and-run

• A two-vehicle hit-and-run crash was reported in the 200 block of South Pearl Street at about 3 p.m. Aug. 10.

• A hit-and-run collision was reported at about 7:57 p.m. in the 700 block of Harrison Avenue. The case remains under investigation.

 

Eluding police

• Officers received a Flock Security camera alert for a stolen vehicle that entered the city of Centralia near the 300 block of Lowe Street at 4:22 p.m. Aug. 10. Officers located the vehicle and attempted to stop it after it entered a gravel parking lot within Riverside Park. When the vehicle fled, officers attempted to pin the vehicle against a concrete barrier; however, the suspect was still able to escape. Officers terminated their pursuit of the stolen vehicle after a couple blocks distance out of public safety concerns due to the suspect driving in a reckless manner.

 

Erratic driver having medical emergency

• Officers received the report of an erratic driver who was speeding, ran a red light and could not maintain lane travel at about 4:41 p.m. at the intersection of North Tower Avenue and East Magnolia Street. An officer located the vehicle a short time later and discovered that the male driver was having a diabetic medical emergency. The officer summoned paramedics to the scene. American Medical Response and Riverside Fire Authority paramedics arrived at the scene a short time later and provided medical treatment to the driver.

 

DUI arrest

• Brian D. Heidgerken, 48, of Edgewood, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol after being stopped at about 2:18 a.m. Aug. 11 in the 1000 block of Harrison Avenue.

 

Vicious dog

• A pedestrian reported being bitten by a dog contained inside a residential fence at about 10:08 a.m. Aug. 11 in the 1100 block of H Street.

 

Fire near the Borst Blockhouse

• Officers responded to a report of a male starting a small fire near the Fort Borst Park Blockhouse at about 12:37 p.m. Aug. 11 in the 2000 block of Borst Avenue. Officers checked the area for the male but were unable to locate him. Burnt residue was located next to the blockhouse.

 

Theft

• A flashlight was reportedly stolen off a bicycle, according to a report at about 10:57 p.m. Aug. 11 in the 1200 block of Lum Road. The suspect is unknown at this time.

 

Chehalis Police Department

Harassment

• A caller in the 400 block of Northeast Washington Avenue reported a case of harassment and stalking at about 3:44 p.m. Aug. 8. The caller hung up after being notified that the crimes would need to be reported in Missouri since that is where they allegedly occurred.

• A case of harassment was reported in the 2100 block of Jackson Highway at about 1:31 p.m. Aug. 9. The case is under investigation. No other details were provided.

 

Crash

• A two-vehicle, non-injury crash was reported at 4:12 p.m. Aug. 8 at the intersection of West Main Street and Interstate 5 Exit 77.

• A two-vehicle, non-injury crash was reported at 4:29 p.m. Aug. 9 at the intersection of Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way and Northwest Louisiana Avenue.

• Information was exchanged by a third party for two motorists after a vehicle was struck by another vehicle in the 300 block of Southeast Washington Avenue at about 10 p.m. Aug. 9. One of the drivers was reportedly too upset to speak with the other driver.

• A hit-and-run crash was reported in the 400 block of Southwest William Avenue at about 11:30 p.m. Aug. 10. No additional information was provided.

• Two vehicles crashed while attempting to merge onto Interstate 5 from Southwest Parkland Drive at about 12:30 p.m. Aug. 11.

 

No-contact order



• A caller in the 300 block of Southwest Cascade Avenue reported the possible violation of a no-contact order at about 4:57 p.m. Aug. 8. The caller advised the individual was knocking at her door and has been continuously calling and texting.

• A caller reported a potential violation of a protection order after seeing a man and woman together at about 1:07 p.m. Aug. 9 in the 10 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue. Officers learned the protection order was no longer in place.

 

Suspicious circumstances

• A “suspicious person” was reportedly looking into vehicles in the 700 block of Northwest Liberty Place, according to a caller at 9:28 p.m. Aug. 8.

• A woman agreed not to return to a residence in the 200 block of Southwest Second Street after a caller reported she was yelling at their neighbor at about 9:21 a.m. Aug. 9.

• A UPS driver reported hearing a woman scream in the 10 block of Northeast Cascade Avenue at 11:29 a.m. Aug. 9. Officers were unable to locate the woman.

• A Chevrolet Tahoe with broken windows was dropped off in the 2500 block of North National Avenue, according to a report at 2:07 p.m. Aug. 10. The caller suspected the vehicle was stolen.

• “Suspicious” vehicles reported at 6:15 p.m. Aug. 9 in the 400 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue were not suspicious at all — they had been dropped off for an upcoming fire department training exercise.

• A female holding a knife was reportedly cutting a backpack, stabbing the ground and throwing items into the road in the 200 block of Southwest Second Street, according to a caller at 9:27 a.m. Aug. 11. The woman was “moved along.”

• Nothing criminal was observed after a report of a suspicious male at 2:41 p.m. Aug. 11 in the 600 block of Southwest 21st Street. An officer reported the male was changing his socks and shoes.

• At 8:31 p.m. Aug. 11, a caller in the 900 block of Southwest Cascade Avenue reported a male almost hit their vehicle with a hatchet. The caller later reported he had a flat tire after the incident.

• At 3:20 a.m. Aug. 12, a caller in the 600 block of Southeast Dobson Court reported someone was shining a flashlight into a home and attempting to open a door.

 

Disorderly conduct

• A man and a woman were reportedly yelling at one another and throwing items during a dispute at 11:45 p.m. Aug. 8 in the 300 block of Southwest Riverside Drive. It was determined that no crime had occurred.

• A shirtless man who refused to leave a hotel in the 200 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue at about 7:37 p.m. Aug. 9 was arrested.

• A woman was taken back to a treatment facility after she allegedly busted through a door, breaking the latch, at about 10:23 p.m. Aug. 9 in the 500 block of Southeast Adams Street.

 

Assault

• A female hit someone in the face with a phone, according to a report in the 1300 block of Northwest State Avenue at 6:09 p.m. Aug. 9. A woman was arrested.

• A fourth-degree assault was reported in the 300 block of Northwest Chehalis Avenue at about 1:27 a.m. Aug. 11. No additional information was provided.

 

Dispute

• A caller reported their female roommate was yelling at them after drinking alcohol at about 8:57 p.m. Aug. 9 in the 200 block of Southwest 11th Street.

• A caller in the 200 block of Southeast Washington Avenue reported hearing people yelling and objects being slammed at about 1 a.m. Aug. 10.

 

Theft

• A vehicle was reported stolen at about 10:30 p.m. Aug. 9 in the 300 block of Northwest Chehalis Avenue. The case is under investigation. No additional information was provided.

• Third-degree theft was reported at an address in the 100 block of Southeast Interstate Avenue at about 5 a.m. Aug. 10.

• Third-degree theft was reported at an address in the 11700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at about 9:25 p.m. Aug. 10.

• A male subject reportedly stole items from a business in the 1500 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue and left in a vehicle at about 10 a.m. Aug. 11.

 

Information

• A caller in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue reported possibly seeing a missing child the day prior during a call at 1:50 p.m. Aug. 10.

• A caller reported that their daughter, who has a warrant for her arrest, was in a broken down vehicle in the 100 block of Southwest Sixth Street at about 8:44 a.m. Aug. 11.

 

Animal negligence

• After a caller reported a dog in a vehicle appeared to be in distress at about 11:58 a.m. Aug. 11 in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue, an officer noted the temperatures were in the 70s and it was overcast. Two windows were open and the dog appeared to be fine, according to the officer.

 

Trespassing

• A report of criminal trespassing was made at 4:42 p.m. Aug. 11 in the 300 block of Southwest 11th Street. An investigation is active.

• A male on a BMX bike was seen attempting to pry doors open at Yard Birds in the 2100 block of North National Avenue at about 7:42 p.m. Aug. 11. The caller said he would like the male trespassed from the property if located.

 

Passed out at bar

• A caller reported a male was passed out at a bar in the 500 block of Northwest Pacific Avenue at about 11:55 p.m. Aug. 11 after possibly being overserved. “If someone dies it’s on you,” the caller stated.

 

Eluding police

• Officers were assisting the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office after a suspect fled south on Interstate 5 at about 12:30 a.m. Aug. 12.

 

JAIL STATISTICS

• As of Monday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 149 inmates, including 136 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 104 were male and 32 were female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were male and two were female.
