Sirens: Man With Machete; Carrying Vodka and a Large Rock; Coins Stolen From Fountain; Burglary; Theft; Assault

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Disorderly Conduct 

• A man with a machete at the intersection of Southwest Eighth Street and Southwest Cascade Avenue was reportedly “waving the machete around (and) screaming and yelling” at 11:20 a.m. on May 2. 

• A woman with a stroller that had a dog inside was reportedly “thrashing around and possibly injuring the dog” in the 1500 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 1:50 p.m. on May 5. 

• A man who was reportedly “taking off his shirt” in the street at the intersection of Southeast Adams Avenue and Southeast Ninth Street just after 3:50 p.m. on May 2 was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail. 

• At approximately 4:20 p.m. on May 2, a caller reported a man wearing a “bathing suit and no shirt” who had “a bottle of vodka in one hand and a large rock in the other hand” was acting disorderly in the 300 block of Southeast Park Hill Drive. 

• A disorderly man was trespassed from a property in the 1100 block of South Market Boulevard at approximately 9:25 p.m. on May 2. 

• A man was reportedly “stealing money out of the fountain” in the 400 block of North Market Boulevard at approximately 7:20 a.m. on May 3. 

 

Assault 

• A subject was arrested in the 200 block of Southwest 13th Street just before 3 p.m. on May 2 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for third-degree assault. 

 

Theft 

• A gray 1998 Honda Accord was reported stolen in the 1300 block of Southwest Wilson Avenue just after 3:50 p.m. on May 2. 

 

Drug Violation 

• A drug violation reported in the 10 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue at 5 p.m. on May 2 is under investigation. 

 

Rape 

• A case of second-degree rape reported in the 200 block of Southwest Cascade Avenue just before 11:10 p.m. on May 2 is under investigation. 

 

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Drug Violations 

• Officers reportedly checked on a woman who was passed out in a vehicle in the 1000 block of Eckerson Road at approximately 8:30 a.m. on May 5 and found fentanyl in her possession. Officers reportedly offered her services “for the treatment of her drug addiction, but she refused.” 

• Officers reportedly found drug paraphernalia in a vehicle in the 600  block of South Diamond Street just after 7:30 a.m. on May 7 after the driver “nodded off.” 

 

Nuisance Violation 

• Just after 8:45 a.m. on May 5, the owner of a business in the 1700 block of South Gold Street reported “someone had defecated right in front of the door to her business and that she was forced to clean it up.” 

 

Suspicious Circumstances 

• A subject wielding a 12-inch-long butcher knife was reportedly walking around in the 800 block of North Tower Avenue just before 9:25 a.m. on May 5. The subject was identified as a homeless man from Pe Ell and was “warned not to continue that kind of behavior.” 

 

Malicious Mischief 

• Just after 11:50 a.m. on May 5, a caller reported his tires were slashed in the 1400 block of Harrison Avenue sometime overnight. 

• A male juvenile was cited for third-degree malicious mischief after he reportedly broke items in a school office in the 900 block of Johnson Road just before 1:40 p.m. on May 5. 

• An unidentified subject reportedly threw rocks at the door to a business in the 600 block of North Tower Avenue, causing damage, at 7:50 p.m. on May 5. 

• A window was reportedly broken out of a park building in the 2000 block of Borst Avenue just after 10:35 a.m. on May 6. 

• At 11:05 p.m. on May 6, a caller reported unidentified juveniles “kicked and damaged” a security door at a private residence in the 1400 block of Jensen Avenue several hours prior. 

 



Traffic Problem 

• Just after 12:05 p.m. on May 5, a citizen reported people “were living in motorhomes parked on their street” in the 300 block of West Pine Street “and it was making it difficult to see oncoming traffic.” 

 

Disorderly Conduct 

• A homeless man from Longview was trespassed from a business in the 400 block of West Main Street just after 1:05 p.m. on May 5 “for yelling at the clerk for no apparent reason.” 

• A homeless man from Olympia was trespassed from the library in the 100 block of South Silver Street just after 2:15 p.m. on May 5 after he reportedly acted disorderly inside, refused to leave when asked to do so and locked himself in the bathroom until an officer arrived. 

• A disorderly subject was reportedly refusing to leave private property in the 1300 block of South Gold Street just before 1:35 p.m. on May 5. The subject left before officers arrived. 

• An Olympia resident was asked to leave a grocery store in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue “because of his erratic behavior” at 12:05 p.m. on May 7. 

• A disorderly subject was trespassed from a private residence in the 200 block of East Chestnut Street just after 4:10 p.m. on May 7. 

• A disorderly man was reportedly “standing in the middle of the street, screaming and assaulting himself” in the 200 block of East Chestnut Street just after 9:45 p.m. on May 7. Officers arrived and determined the man was not hurting himself. The man reportedly refused to speak to crisis workers and was later cared for by friends. 

 

Vehicle Accidents 

• A motorhome reportedly backed into a parked vehicle at the intersection of West Pine and North Silver Streets just before 2:35 p.m. on May 5 and left without leaving the proper information. An investigation is ongoing. 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in a parking lot at the intersection of West Main Street and North Tower Avenue just after 5:20 p.m. on MAy 5. 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of West Cherry and South Pearl streets just before 6 p.m. on May 5. 

 

Assault 

• A 22-year-old Centralia man was reportedly involved in a physical altercation with a family member in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue just after 5:55 p.m. on May 5. He was located, arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for fourth-degree assault the next morning.  

 

Disputes 

• Officers responded to a report of a dispute in a parking lot outside an apartment complex in the 1400 block of Lewis Street at approximately 2:35 p.m. on May 6. A male subject was reportedly “yelling profanities and racial slurs and (was) hitting things,” but the crowd “scattered” as officers arrived and “no one would stay and tell the officers what happened.” 

• A dispute between two men was reported in the 1600 block of Reynolds Avenue just after 3:10 a.m. on May 6. One man accused the other of throwing a rock at his neck while the other man claimed he was defending himself from being assaulted with a chain wielded by the first man. When asked for more details, one of the subjects “told police to stop asking dumb questions. Due to “lack of cooperation” and because officers could not locate witnesses, no arrests were made. 

• A verbal dispute was reported in the 100 block of North Tower Avenue just after 10:40 p.m. on May 6. 

 

Theft 

• A package was reported stolen from the 700 block of North Pearl Street just before 1 p.m. on May 6. Officers later located a juvenile suspect, who claimed he “stole the package, opened it and realized it was women’s lingerie so he discarded it.” The suspect returned the package and “the owner was happy to get the clothing back and chose not to pursue the matter.” The juvenile “was returned home with a warning.” 

• A case of shoplifting was reported in the 100 block of West High Street just before 4:55 p.m. on May 7. Two suspects were later located and the property was returned to the business. A 46-year-old Kelso man was cited for third-degree theft and a 42-year-old Centralia woman who initially provided false information was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for third-degree theft.

• A male suspect reportedly stole three bottles of cologne from a business in the 1300 block of Lum Road just before 5:30 p.m. on May 7. The case is under investigation. 

 

Burglary 

• A possible burglary was reported at an unoccupied residence in the 1600 block of North Scheuber Road just after 5:45 p.m. on May 6 after the homeowner saw a vehicle in the driveway and found the back door was open. A suspect, identified as Janelle K. Meredith, 37, of Federal Way, was observed exiting a detached shed and, after property belonging to the homeowner was found in Meredith’s vehicle, Meredith was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree burglary. A preliminary hearing was scheduled in Lewis County Superior Court on Monday. 

 

Wellness Check 

• Officers were asked to contact a man sleeping on the sidewalk in front of a motel in the 1000 block of Eckerson Road just after 6:05 a.m. on May 7 and to “ask him to move along if he was OK.” The man was up and moving when an officer arrived and did not want assistance. 

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Monday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 178 inmates, including 163 in the general population and 15 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 128 were reported male and 35 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 12 were reported male and three were reported female.
