Sirens: Parents report theft by their child; Woman assaulted while repairing bike; 'Kittens for sale' van again reported

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Theft 

• A case of theft reported in the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Drive at approximately 2:40 p.m. on Aug. 30 is under investigation. 

• A vehicle prowl was reported in the 300 block of Southeast Park Hill Drive just after 5:50 p.m. on Aug. 30. 

• At least one subject was cited for shoplifting bread, a toothbrush, toothpaste and “possibly some candy” from a store in the 1300 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 30. 

• A vehicle was reported stolen from the intersection of Southeast Washington Avenue and Southeast Third Street at 7:50 p.m. on Aug. 30. 

• A safe containing five firearms was reported as possibly stolen from the 1200 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 9:40 p.m. on Aug. 31. 

 

Suspicious van 

• Just before 5:05 p.m. on Aug. 30, a caller reported a “suspicious van with a sign in it (that) says ‘Kittens for sale’” had parked in the 1500 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue every day for the last three days. 

 

Assault 

• A woman who reportedly got out of her car and repeatedly kicked a woman who was repairing her bike at a residence located at the intersection of Southeast Sixth Street and Southwest McFadden Avenue was cited for fourth-degree assault. 

• A case of fourth-degree assault reported in the 10 block of Southwest Second Street just after 6:35 p.m. on Aug. 30 is under investigation. 

• A possible assault was reported in the 1000 block of Northwest Prindle Street at 9:15 p.m. on Aug. 30. 

• A subject was arrested at the intersection of Southwest third Street and Northwest Chehalis Avenue just before 11:35 p.m. on Aug. 31 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for third-degree assault after officers responded to a report of a vehicle that went through a fence and got stuck in the middle of a field. The driver of the vehicle, who was uninjured, was reportedly seen “running around the vehicle” and “tearing off the license plate.” 

• A female subject was arrested in the 500 block of Southeast Adams Avenue just after 1:50 a.m. on Sept. 1 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for third-degree assault after she reportedly broke windows and assaulted staff at the facility. 

 

Criminal trespassing 

• A case of trespassing was reported at a business in the 500 block of Northwest Pacific Avenue just after 7:20 p.m. on Aug. 30. 

• A male subject accused of shoplifting from a business in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 3 p.m. on Aug. 31 was trespassed from the business for life. 

• A female subject was cited for third-degree theft in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 5 p.m. on Aug. 31.  

 

Malicious mischief 

• A case of third-degree malicious mischief reported in the 100 block of Southwest Sixth Street at approximately 11:50 a.m. on Aug. 31 is under investigation. 

 

Dispute 



• A verbal dispute was reported inside a business in the 1100 block of South Market Boulevard at 6:10 p.m. on Aug. 31. One of the subjects involved was reportedly waiting for the other subject to exit the store when the incident was reported. 

 

Juvenile problem 

• A group of teens reportedly ran up to a door in the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 11 p.m. on Aug. 31 and “were smacking it and screaming” before leaving in a vehicle. 

 

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Criminal trespass 

• A homeless person who was found sleeping on private property in the 200 block of North Tower Avenue just after 10:20 a.m. on Aug. 30 was trespassed from the property. 

• At approximately 1:05 p.m. on Aug. 30, a homeless man was trespassed from a store in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue for life after the store manager “observed him putting items into his pockets and leaving the store without paying.” 

• A 31-year-old Centralia man was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree burglary just before 7:55 a.m. on Aug. 31 after he reportedly trespassed at a store in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue and stole items. 

 

Theft 

• Just before 1 p.m. on Aug. 30, parents reported their child had stolen items from them in the 1100 block of Scammon Creek Road. 

• Clothing was reported stolen from a business in the 500 block of Harrison Avenue just after 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 30. The male suspect fled in a waiting vehicle driven by a female suspect. 

• Just after 4:05 p.m. on Aug. 30, the owner of a business in the 1500 block of Lum Street reported part of a fence was stolen and damaged. 

• Just after 10 a.m. on Aug. 31, a boat was reported stolen from the 500 block of Northwest St. Helens Avenue sometime within the last week. 

 

Camping 

• Officers gave a “camping in a vehicle warning” to a man found sleeping in a non-operational vehicle in the 200 or 300 block of North Gold Street at approximately 2:35 p.m. on Aug. 30. 

 

Malicious mischief 

• Damage to a vehicle tire was reported in the 200 block of Railroad Avenue at approximately 3 p.m. on Aug. 30. The case is under investigation. 

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Friday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 126 inmates, including 113 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 88 were reported male and 25 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 12 were reported male and one was reported female.
