Sirens: Pedestrian's dog struck by vehicle; Vehicle prowls at sports complex; Homeless man 'purposefully damaged a watermelon,' steals food

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Theft

• A 2010 silver Hyundai Sonata with the Washington license plate BQE5029 was reported stolen from the 100 block of West High Street just before 8:10 a.m. on Aug. 31. 

• Over $400 worth of merchandise was reported stolen from a business in the 1400 block of Lum Road just after 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 31. The suspects left the scene before officers arrived. 

• A Chehalis woman was referred to Centralia Municipal Court for third-degree theft after she was reportedly seen via security cameras stealing from a business in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue just after 9:10 a.m. on Sept. 1. 

• Several pairs of shoes were reported stolen from a store in the 100 block of West High Street just before 3:10 p.m. on Sept. 1. The suspect fled the area in a white Toyota Sienna van. 

• A 30-year-old Winlock man reportedly “went on a shoplifting spree” in the 100 block of West High Street just before 6:35 p.m. on Sept. 1. The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived. 

• A 34-year-old homeless man from Centralia reportedly stole food and “purposely damaged a watermelon” at a store in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue at 7:40 a.m. on Sept. 3. Deputies with the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office assisted Centralia patrol units and located the suspect near the store. After speaking to store management, officers learned that the suspect had been stealing from the store on a daily occurrence, including the previous day, but the thefts were never reported. An officer obtained video footage of two of the incidents. The suspect was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail on two counts of third-degree theft and one count each of third-degree malicious mischief and knowingly possessing a controlled substance. He was also booked on an outstanding Centralia Municipal Court warrant. 

• An unidentified male suspect reportedly stole from a store in the 500 block of Harrison Avenue just before 5:25 p.m. on Sept. 3 and fled in an “older” red Jeep Cherokee.

Vehicle prowl 

• Officers responded to a vehicle prowl in progress near the Sport Hub Complex in the 700 block of Pioneer Way just before 10:20 a.m. on Sept. 1. When officers arrived on scene, they learned three vehicles had been entered by the unknown suspect and two of the vehicles had broken windows. The suspect fled the area before officers arrived. No items were reported missing at the time of the report.

 

Vehicle accidents 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of E Street and West Second Street just after 9:15 a.m. on Aug. 31. 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 1400 block of South Tower Avenue at 1:05 p.m. on Aug. 31. 

• Injuries were reported following a single-motorcycle collision at the intersection of West First Street and Harrison Avenue just before 9:05 p.m. on Aug. 31. The Centralia Police Department did not disclose information on who was injured or the extent of their injuries. 

• A semi-truck reportedly backed into a passenger car at the intersection of West Walnut Street and South Tower Avenue just after 9:45 a.m. on Sept. 1. No injuries were reported. 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in Centralia when one vehicle swerved to avoid another vehicle and collided with a vehicle traveling in the opposite lane. 

• Just before 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 2, there was a report that a vehicle being towed by another vehicle broke loose from the tow rope and hit a barrier at the overpass of southbound Interstate 5 and Reynolds Avenue. No injuries were reported. 

• A two-vehicle collision was reported on the Exit 82 northbound Interstate 5 onramp at approximately 1:25 p.m. on Sept. 3. Possible injuries were reported, but the Centralia Police Department did not disclose information on who was injured or the extent of their injuries. 

• At 4:45 a.m. on Sept. 4, officers were dispatched to the report of a vehicle vs. pedestrian accident that occurred at the intersection of West High Street and Harrison Avenue approximately 15 minutes prior. Officers responded to the scene and learned that the pedestrian’s dog, not the pedestrian, was hit and sustained a leg injury. Officers contacted several local emergency veterinary clinics in an attempt to find medical care for the dog. The dog owner was referred to an emergency clinic in Lacey as local emergency veterinary services were not available.  “Officers checked the Flock camera system for a vehicle matching the description provided by the dog owner, but no vehicle was located with the provided description,” according to the Centralia Police Department. 

 

Forgery 

• Just before 10 a.m. on Aug. 31, there was a report that a business check was fraudulently cashed in the 1500 block of Harrison Avenue. The case is under investigation. 

 

Criminal trespass 

• A homeless person from Centralia was trespassed from school property in the 900 block of Johnson Road just before 10:05 a.m. on Aug. 31. 

• A homeless person from Centralia was trespassed from school property in the 1200 block of Alder Street just before 4:10 p.m. on Aug. 31. 



• A case of trespassing was reported at a business in the 100 block of West High Street just after 4:35 p.m. on Sept. 2. 

 

Camping

• A 30-year-old Centralia man was cited for camping on the roadway at the intersection of East Pine and North Gold streets just after 6:05 a.m. on Sept. 1 after he was “warned several times during previous contacts.” 

 

Burglary

• A California resident was arrested in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue just before 8:35 a.m. on Sept. 1 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree burglary for shoplifting from a store he was trespassed from. 

Rape 

• A sexual assault by an unidentified suspect was reported in the 2400 block of Leisure Lane just after 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 31. The case is under investigation. 

 

Dispute 

• A verbal dispute was reported in the 600 block of South Diamond Street just before 4:05 p.m. on Aug. 31. 

 

Malicious mischief 

• A juvenile was referred to a local prosecutor’s office for damaging a window at a residence in the 1400 block of West Reynolds Avenue at 11:40 p.m. on Aug. 31. 

• A juvenile reportedly damaged a wall inside a residence in the 1400 block of West Reynolds Avenue just after 7:50 p.m. on Sept. 1. 

 

Assault 

• A 27-year-old Centralia man was arrested in the 2500 block of North Pearl Street at 7:15 a.m. on Sept. 3 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for fourth-degree assault, domestic violence. 

 

Disorderly conduct 

• A disorderly female was reportedly “screaming and swearing” at an unknown person in the 300 block of East Main Street just before 3:55 p.m. on Sept. 3. Officers located the subject, a homeless woman from Chehalis, and warned her about disorderly conduct. 

 

DUI 

• An 18-year-old male from Centralia was arrested in the 200 block of South Pearl Street at approximately 10:20 p.m. on Sept. 3 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for driving under the influence.
